The Whiskys!

Anyone else have any interest in Whiskys, Single-Malts, and so on? What's your favorite? What have you tried that's awful?

^You're right Whiskey is disgusting, however some Whisky's are ok. There can be a difference between the two.

Whisky generally refers to Whisky from Scotland a.k.a. Scotch (though in the UK it would rarely if ever be called Scotch)

Whiskey is generally all the others

Ah, gotcha. I was wondering if you were talking about Scotch. We would never call it "whisky" in the US, unless we specified that it was Scotch Whisky.

Scotch was the last alcoholic beverage I partook in before realizing I needed to get myself back on the wagon.

I like a nice Islay Scotch like Coal Ila, Lagavulin or Laphroaig or an occasional Highland Scotch like a Dalwhinnie. The Canadian single malt Glen Breton isn't bad.

I don't particularly like Whisky but if I have to drink it neat then I'll have one of the lighter Speyside types rather than the peaty/smoky Islay styles. The only times I drink it are when it's all that's on offer, or someone insists, and that's usually if I'm at the home of someone who likes their Whisky so there's always a range to choose from.

I don't drink it often enough to have a favourite (wine is much more my thing). I suppose one I can recall that was fine was an old Balvenie of some description. IIRC, honey on the nose, with strong vanilla and candied fruit notes, with a long but not too hot finish.

I have a couple bottles of single malt scotch, but it's been a while since I've had any so I couldn't tell you what they're called. It's definately an aquired taste and I haven't quite aquired it yet.
Bourbon on the other hand is more my speed.

I will always remember the first time I ever tried Whiskey. I was hanging out with a couple of friends, and we were having a good time and having a few drinks. One of my friends had brought a bottle with him, and insisted that I give it a try. He said it was absolutely delicious. I took one tiny sip, and thought I would never be able to breath or taste anything good ever again. It was the most horribly vile tasting, and smelling thing that I have ever had in my mouth. I would rather have drank a whole bottle of cough syrup than take another sip of that stuff.

So yeah, I guess this thread is really not for me.

The Canadian single malt Glen Breton isn't bad.

I thought it was about the most disgusting Whisky I've tried.

For someone who doesn't like Whisky in pretty much any form (Whisky/Whiskey, Scotch, Bourbon, Rye) I do have a very large collection.

The two least offensive ones I have found are:

-White Owl (Canadian, clear in colour, hence the name)
-Glenfiddich (Scotch)
