The "What was the name of that movie?" Thread

I was talking about a movie with my co-worker today but I couldn't remember its name. I'm sure there are other people like that, so here we are.

Anyway:

It was a comedy that came out in the late-'80s about a guy who brings home this dog who basically shreds everything up and I think it had the song "Oh Yeah" by Yellow. It was same song heard on Ferris Bueller's Day Off and some Twix commercials.

But I can't figure out what it is.

Turner & Hooch! That's the one! Thanks.

I turn this thread over to anyone else now.

What was that one with the guy, and he got bit by the spider, and he turned into some kind of spider...dude?

Theres two that have been bugging me so may as well ask ;)

One with Micheal J Fox, vietnam war, stops a local from getting raped, hits a guy with a shovel. Seen it a few times but for some reason I never store the name in my memory.

The other a film I watched as a kid... the only part I remember is a guy in the bathroom, his face starts to peel away and then everythings fine.

Casualties of War. Also starring Sean Penn.

Poltergeist, maybe?

I'm betting Altered States with William Hurt.

Good movie.

Thank you both :) Right... now off to Love Film so I can order it. I should actually write it down this time as I have no idea why the title's never actually stuck in my memory.

Definatly not Poltergeist. I'd guess it was the same era though

I'm betting Altered States with William Hurt.

It could be that... I'll put it into my rental list and find out sooner or later. I keep tellign people the scene and most think I've made it up. If not, it's a film I've never seen before so might enjoy it.

Actually I don't think Turner and Hooch had the Yello song in it, but it is the one where the bull mastiff tears everything up to shreds. I still love that movie. The stakeout scene in it was hilarious - essentially Tom Hanks and a dog in a car. I'm sure half of that scene was improvised. :guffaw:

"Oh Yeah!" was featured in K-9. :bolian:

Now, can someone help me with this one? I think it was a TV movie in the early 80s, possibly a horror film, but I remember one key scene set at night, which involved the film's heroine being buried alive (without a coffin) by a crowd of people (some of whom appeared quite elderly) and the lady was screaming out in panic as the rocks and mud piled on top of her. I don't know if I imagined this or if I did see it (I was about 4 at the time), but I do recall it being on TV twice as part of ITV's "Murder, Mystery & Suspense" series.

A bit of google-fu suggests The Longest Night

Then in that case it's worse than I thought. I was thinking of one movie while confusing it with another.

I guess that's what 20 years can do... :o

To be fair, they are both "police officer unwillingly teams up with a dog" movies released within three months of one another.

What's that one with Elijah Wood and Bruce Willis saving the world from a meteor? Deep Armageddon, or something?

And then there's the CGI one about the insects, "An Antz Life" I think it was called?

Or the CGI one with the dancing penguin that becomes a surfer?

Both are underated classics, too, IMHO though I think K9 had the better ending, though T&H's ending had more "punch" to it.

"Please God, bring me hail. Hail the size of cantaloupes."

Don't forget the geological thriller Dante's Volcano, starring Pierce Brosnan and Anne Heche.
