First ep didn't grab me, I'm afraid. Civil rights is definitely a worthwhile issue to make a series about, but I grew up in the 60s and paid attention to it back then. I don't need to watch a whole series about it any more. Let this one educate the young'uns. I have too much other fun stuff to watch.
Interesting. So Will turns out to be Night's grandfather and is the little boy who survived the Massacre. Someone further up thread mentioned that they thought Will had been Hooded Justce. That might be where they're headed with the Hooded Justice flashback. Also, we know HJ was a big strong guy which may comport with Will asking Night if she believed he could lift 200 lbs.

Yes, this theme was touched upon in the episode. Because of the payment of reparations to many of the black descendants of the victims of the Tulsa Massacre, it appears that what we may be being told is that black Tulsans are doing MUCH better financially, than white Tulsans. The reparations may be shown to be at the heart of the issues fueling the 7th Kavalry's anger, well that and good old fashioned racial hatred.
Anxious to see who it was that rescued Will.
They keep mentioning the fact that Doctor Manhattan is on Mars, which makes me think that that's the last place he is.

I think so too. I also think that we are going to see the return of some familiar characters regarding Will's rescuers.
I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be propaganda to keep people in fear of another attack. The same with the squid falls.
If they follow the movie or the comics, well, he isn't here.

So Ozymight have caught a dupe, and tricked it into making an endless supply of butlers, or through some pact, Manhatten gave Vedit a dupe to play with.
The girl is either a dupe of one of the silk spectres or the other girl friend or a feminized version of Doctor Manhatten themself.

There seems to have been a time skip between episodes with Veidt. Last week, the cake had one candle for his anniversary and he was starting to write a play. This week, there are two candles and the play is finished and perfectly performed.
There's a lot of repeating imagery, like Veidt's castle. It's the building Dr. Manhattan is shown making on Mars and the floating model the boy is making in the second episode.

I did not notice that! Good catch.
That's interesting--last week I had thought that Veidt was Manhattan. His obsession with the watch and this week with Manhattan's origin story certainly shows some kind of connection. Perhaps Veidt was taken to Mars or was recreated there shortly after he died.
I don't think Veidt ever really died. I think that was misdirection. In the Petey pedia supplemental materials on the HBO website, there is a report from Agent Petey stating that he doesn't believe it's a good idea to declare Adrian Veidt dead, despite the fact that he had been missing for 8 years.
