The web makes the world happier

Hell, without the Web, I wouldn't have a social life. In fact, geek boards like Trek BBS and HobbyTalk ARE my social life.

Yes, it's pathetic, isn't it? :)

If there was no internet, none of you would ever have heard of me, and so you would not be as happy.

So clearly, the answer is yes.

Were it not for the Web, I wouldn't have my current job, as I'm a developer. I'd probably still be fighting it out for COBOL programming jobs, which weren't bad, but working in retail and finance was a little soul-destroying. I also wouldn't have been able to have a 15-month relationship with a guy in Atlanta whom I met at Dragon*Con. (The relationship didn't last, though we still chat 4-5 times per week on Skype.)

One evening, while I was at a convention here in Toronto, I took the time to call him up and chat. I was carrying my laptop around the hotel and introducing him to all of my friends over the webcam. As one of them said, "Technology is amazing, isn't it?"

The internet makes things way easier. On the other hand, it helps me not have to go anywhere. Its a good and a bad thing.
