The Way to the Stars

Cake Is Eternal

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I just finished reading “The Way to the Stars” by Una McCormack and I absolutely loved it. Tilly is one of my favorite DSC characters and I loved learning more about her journey. I love the interesting people she met upon the journey and I love her relationships with her grandparents.

Thank you! I loved writing it.
It was so beautifully written, Una, and I could tell it was written with great love! I can’t wait for your next book now. I’m reading “The Last Best Hope” and I love how you’ve written the relationship between Raffi and Picard. I’m just now discovering your work and I love it!

Aw, thank you! Very grateful!

First read it while first watching the DSC season 1 for the first time (although I forget if I started before seeing the pilot or not). Certainly liked it as a character study (I was on tenterhooks as to whether Tilly would be able to reconcile with her academy roommate, despite that being one of the least important things in the overall narrative).

Was really glad I'd had a chance to read it before seeing the "Runaway" Short Trek, since it provides a lot of extra context to that story (things between Tilly and her mom seem simultaneously better and worse then they were during the novel, knowing that Tilly was a literal runaway gives you a lot more insight into how she relates to and helps Po, and it kinda becomes her sort-of paying forward the help she got from the engineer on her escape in her own way).

Fills me with delight that you were on tenterhooks over this! Exactly the kind of thing that the book was about.
