The Watching/Rewatching Enterprise Thread

I just watched the series finale today and ...
....They freaking SAVED EARTH , and got NO AWARDS and NO PROMOTIONS!? What kind of f-upped organization is Starfleet anyway?

Oh, I was ranting again...that dang episode always gets me....:p

This is (in part) why I write fan fic. Malcolm gets a ship eventually. Hoshi is promoted (which is actually canon - hello, IAMDII, where her service record is on screen! Travis is also promoted, but eventually leaves Starfleet in a failed attempt to save his crumbling marriage.

I just watched the series finale today and I... I wish I hadn't even bothered! That has got to be the worst Trek finale I've ever seen. It didn't do the crew justice at all. If I wanted to watch TNG, I'd watch TNG (the perks of using my friend's Netflix account!). Trip's death seemed as senseless as Tasha Yar's. The worst part though, to me, was everyone's delight at the Captain preparing to meet his speech. There were no nods to Trip's death the day (hours? minutes?) before. I would've at least thought everyone would've seemed solemn but trying to put on a happy face - something like, "it's too bad Trip isn't here to see this." I realize the show got cancelled but I refuse to believe that was the best thing they could come up with even on a short notice. Let me just end this with: WTF did I just watch?!
Yep! And not only did I utter that same phrase, but I continued with. WTF! WTF! WTF! They killed Trip, with no emotional repercussions?? And then the other scene with Travis, Hoshi and Malcolm in the stands - none of whom had been promoted in 10 years! And again, it was WTF! WTF! They freaking SAVED EARTH , and got NO AWARDS and NO PROMOTIONS!? What kind of f-upped organization is Starfleet anyway?

Don't get me started. I vowed about 7 years ago to never watch that episode again because I get TORQUED. Were they just ripped when they wrote that closing?

At any rate, one of the depressing things for me in the novels has to do with the long term effects of the transporter...,,,,as if I didn't dislike Emory Erickson enough....

One interesting thing about rewatching Daedelus is it was the first time I had really noticed the pattern on the panels around the transporter pad. The resemblance of those symmetrical shapes to electromagnetic patterns made me wonder if they were in fact created by the stresses of space-time distortion, rather than just painted on as decoration.

BTW, I'm very curious as to what the side effects of transporter use are (I don't care about spoilers).

If I understand you right, you want a little info..it comes from some of the "official" Enterprise novels...though, Lord help me, I can't remember which specific book , as I've blasted thru several in the past few months:) but the gist of it is
There is neurological damage suffered by some of the crew. Discovered by Phlox during a medical exam of newly promoted Captain Reed when Reed is preparing to take his first command. Archer, who is an Admiral at this point, suffers from something I think similar to what is Parkinson's. And Reed is sterile..phlox discovers that the genetic and neurological conditions are a result of cell replication issues - caused by too frequent use of the transporter device. Somehow, Trip escaped the damage.

Thanks, Willow, that's very interesting. Explains why future/past Reed in E2 didn't have children!

Eyeresistim not sure if that was the intent when the episodes actually came out. The books came out after the series ended. But I love how the books tak what happened in the series, and explain more, and go into more depth.
