The War Machines ending...

Jim Gamma

So I just watched "The War Machines", quite a good story! Nice to see the changeover in companions. But... right at the end, two people walk across the screen. Was it my imagination, or is one of them Patrick Troughton?

I'm pretty sure after all the time and scrutinizing by fandom, a Pat Troughton cameo before he was cast would have been noticed and dissected and obsessed and avatar-ed and FanFic-ed by now, at least... :techman:

It was, to me, one of the oddest and coldest partings I've ever seen in Who. I think Peri's non-goodbye at least equals it. Funny thing, contract negotiations...

Yeah, I've always hated how Dodo was quietly dismissed from behind the scenes without a proper goodbye. I'm especially miffed because I liked Dodo a lot.

Well, for my generation, watching Peri's boobs survive all the way from Davison to Colin's last year, I was a bit irked that she left offscreen. What they left in her place was no consolation prize, either...

Oh, and you think Miss "I scream at the drop of a hat" Polly is a fair consolation prize for Dodo? :p

Given Polly is one of the series' best companions, I'm sure she's a few shades better than Dodo 'Whoops I've forgotten me accent' Chaplet :)

Not sure which I prefer... I haven't seen enough of either to know, really.

Off the top of my head, the only Polly story I've seen was "The 10th Planet". She and Ben seemed pretty non-descript in it. Maybe they had more personality in other stories, but I doubt it.

Mel has been quite fun in the audios, and she wasn't that bad in "Trial of a Timelord".

Dodo didn't get a very good send off, but I think you've got to be one of the few people that actually liked Dodo. I don't think she got any character development at all! Anyways, I think it's time to drag this avatar out again:

Yes... Polly is delectably delicious... (I should probably stop drooling on the keyboard)

Yeah, she didn't have much character development, but I thought she had some charisma. I guess that's just me. :p

Bah. :p

Yeah, she's pretty, but not quite my type. But to be honest, Dodo isn't either. I just thought Dodo had more charisma. *shrug*

You should read 'Who Killed Kennedy' by David Bishop. It's a lot of fun, linking all of the earth-based stories up to the time of Day of the Daleks, working everything into a vast conspiracy. It's a bit like those Khan books Greg Cox wrote. Dodo plays quite a large part, and even gets some shagging in! :alienblush:

Sounds like an interesting read, especially since I loved Cox's books. I'll keep it in mind, thanks.

Polly comes off best in stories that no longer exist on video, unfortunately. She's quite ballsy and resourceful in stories like The Smugglers and The Highlanders, and she has some quite good moments in The Power of the Daleks, as well.
