The Walking Dead season 2 trailer

Very atmospheric trailer and it appears to give a solid level of menace to (what will likely be) the premiere. And given the story it's hinting towards (the farm) it should give an episode or two's rich drama... I just hope that the remainder of the season is more in line with the pilot than the other 5 episodes of season 1, which felt oddly bloated. Apart from a few credible and emotional high points in Season 1 I felt that all the air pumped into the pilot quickly slipped out and what came after was meandering and honestly a little dull.

I'm looking forward to this, but nowhere near as much as I would hope for.

Hugo - Oh, Christ...

I wanted to post this in my Season 2 Updates thread, but also didn't want to have three posts in a row there.

Anyway, I don't recall a dissolution of the group like this in the comics, but it feels like a very natural divergence. How long would such a disparate group stay together, after all? I can see why Shane (or anyone else) might think he'd have an easier time surviving on his own, though I imagine that's where the opening of the trailer comes back to bite him in the ass.

Can't wait for the group to get to Hershel's farm.

I thought the scene in the trailer with Shane firing a gun near that black iron fence was Wiltshire Estates. Now I wonder if he gets there on his own, or if things play out close to how they did in the comic. I thought the group settling down for the night in a house at Wiltshire, then switch scenes to the sign outside the community would have been the perfect way to end season one.

^
I completely forgot about that location, but that would make a lot of sense. I was focused on Shane's face during that scene in the trailer, so I barely even noticed the fence. I agree that that would be a great way to end a season - maybe we'll get lucky and the order of locations will be switched around so that Wiltshire Estates comes after Hershel's Farm, right at the end of this season.

Looks like the show is continuing to focus on what I most value about it - the character drama rather than All Zombies, All The Time. :D I love the little touches - the lost shoe amidst the abandoned cars; the "How About a Nice Cup of Shut the Hell Up" placard hanging in the RV. :bolian:

very cool it looks like going into the third graphic novel which is awesome. I am wondering if the highway parts are is going to be the premire or the entire season set on the highway leading them to find the farm house for season 3.

Apparently they were shooting episode 11 of 13 recently, so it's likely they're close to wrapping for the season. Darabont hasn't worked in tv before, and running a show seems a lot harder than directing films. I'm reasonably sure he'll stay on in a producer role, and possibly write and direct the occasional episode.

Well if Darabont's gone, could they please rely more on the source material then? It's right there, ready for dutiful adaptation. Also, Kirkman's still on.

Yeah, none of the articles about Darabont leaving the position of showrunner give any reason to assume he's leaving the show entirely, so perhaps he's merely stepping back from the day-to-day grind to assume a less direct "overview" approach to the series. As the Deadline article I posted mentions, it's possible that Glen Mazzara could be promoted to showrunner; with his and Kirkman's continued involvement, I'm not too worried about the future of the show.

Why? A direct adaptation would be boring, because we'd always know what's coming. Keeping Shane on the show is excellent because it allows for more dramatic situations down the line. Plus the tense chemistry between Andrew Lincoln and Jon Bernthal is a joy to watch.

They've already said that they're following the path of the comic in terms of the overall plot, but if they want to add stuff in and take detours, I'm all for it as long as the stuff is worthwhile.

Damon Lindleof should take it and at the end, if by chance they were dead the whole time, well now it makes sense!

I'm sure he'd rather write movies though.

Well hopefully enough of the groundwork has been laid already that another showrunner can just carry on from where Darabont left off.

Besides, this isn't something like Heroes or Dexter that requires a lot of intricate plotting, and that started to go off track when other showrunners came on. As long as the writers remember to keep the focus on the characters, keep things nicely atmospheric, and continue using the comic as a guide, it should be fairly easy to maintain the same quality.

Well, Kirkman has been helping to run the writers' room for seasons 1 and 2, and I doubt he's going to step down as well. I'm pretty certain the show will be fine.

He was heavily involved in The Shield during most of its run (from Wiki: executive story editor, season one; producer, season two; supervising producer, season three; co-exec, season four; exec, seasons five & six). I believe he's only been a showrunner himself on season one of Crash and season two of Hawthorne. I haven't seen either of those, but his work on The Shield and Life (plus that he was bumped from season one freelancer to season two EP here) has me feeling like this will work out just fine.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed that trailer for sure. I love the comics and recently ordered and watched season one. I think the show does a great job of capturing the feel and tone of the comic, and I really like the direction they have taken the story.

I like the contrast between how the Dixon brothers interact with the group , although to be fair we don't see much of Merle,
