The voice of the History Channel has passed.

CorporalClegg

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Edward Herrmann dies at 71.

I will always remember him as the narrator of all the great History channel shows back when the History channel still made great shows.

He also played Richard Gilmore and Gilmore Girls--one of my great guilty pleasures in life.

RIP Good Sir.

I was going to post this hours ago, including he had the best narrating voice, but my computer went nutty.

I'm currently rewatching Gilmore Girls, and even in the horrible seasons (5-6-7) he is a bright star.

Some quotes from his TV family...

Ed Herrmann’s combination of pure charisma plus his distinctive voice lit up any room he entered. He had a gentlemanly manner, a wicked sense of humor, and a sharp wit. He was well-read, interesting, and just plain fun to be around. He had deep respect and love for the craft of acting and led by example. You wanted to be better prepared, or just plain better, because he always was. He brought such humor and humanity to all his work, but I know the character of Richard Gilmore had a special place in his heart. He loved our show and was touched by the enthusiasm of its fans. - Lauren Graham

We, the Gilmore Girls family, are so terribly sad and somewhat stunned. We only learned about his illness a week or so ago. I got a call from [Edward’s wife] Star Monday night asking if I wanted to come to the hospital to say good-bye. I went yesterday and was able to give Ed love from Lauren [Graham], Alexis [Bledel] and Amy [Sherman-Palladino]… I have so many fond memories of our time together on Gilmore Girls and since, mainly via email. I think everyone who knew or worked with Ed found him to be absolutely delightful… Everything looks a little dim, as if the lights went down. - Kelly Bishop

A wonderful character actor with gravitas to spare.

From Gilmore Girls to the Good Wife, he was always a welcome presence.

RIP

Herrmann had a major breakthrough in 1976 starring as FDR with Jane Alexander in the tv-movie Eleanor and Franklin. Well worth it if you've not seen it.

Nuts... I hadn't heard about this...

While I remember him from several roles as well as the narration of the History Channel, my fondest memory of him was his turn as the big bad from the Lost Boys.

He was really good as Herman Munster in the TV movie FOX did back in the 1990s.

Just saw this thread and wanted to add that he possessed fantastic talent.

I've been on a Girlmore Girls re-watch via Netflix since news of his passing first broke and I just can't imagine the show in any incarnation without him.

He could do anger, rage, befuddlement, sadness, love, warmth, wit, intelligence, and charm ALL in the same damn scene. A truly gifted talent.

He will be missed and thankfully remembered for years to come though his various works.

Its sad....... He created something so good and it was ruined really..... (Not as good as it was when it first started)
