The Visitor - Happy Father's Day!

In church this morning, the homily was about the movie The Pursuit of Happyness and how the main character had to fight through difficult times and keep his son his top priority. It was a sermon that actually choked me up because while I was thinking about this movie and it's relation to today, I was also thinking about Deep Space Nine and "The Visitor" and how that episode really dug deep on the relationship between Father and Son.

Star Trek as a whole has had some beautiful episodes like City on the Edge of Forever, The Inner Light, Living Witness, Simultude, and countless others, yet this episode is the only one where I really need a box of kleenex with me because I am sobbing at the end. It's the most simplist of stories, the relationship between Father and Son and how that bond is so strong that one will do whatever it takes to keep it. This episode has meant so much to me in my life because it's reminded me that while we may have arguments every so often, I still love my father (And mother too) so much and I appreciate everything he has done. I think tonight is a great night to pop this episode into the DVD player and be emotional again.

Has this episode had an impact on you as it had with me? If you're a father, you see an episode like this, a story so beautifully told, and does that impact you and the relationship you have with your kids.

To all the Fathers out there, Happy Father's Day. :)

I honestly thought this thread would go somewhere. Hell, even me wishing Happy Father's day to everyone didn't even get anything. It really does suck when you have something heartfelt to say on a BBS and it's pretty much dead on arrival. :(

I cried on Father's Day because of Tim Russert's death. :(

I did on Friday when it happened. Still can't believe it.

As for Father's Day, it's always been something of a meaningless holiday for me since I'm a bastard child.

Maybe from now on, I'll pretend that somebody cool is my dad when Father's Day comes around. Like Garak!
