Like this episode. Tony Todd as jake was well played. His farther jumping in and out of time was better then just killing him off. Seeing how the rest of the ship treated jake was cool to see too. The old age makeup seens where fun to watch and the story had a good emotional feel to it.

So what do you guys think?

This episode is actually one of the best-received hours of DS9 overall. It even received a Hugo nomination. So you're definitely not alone on that one.

Definatly in my top 5 DS9 episodes, proper scifi, meaning great character drama told through technobable and a future setting.

I didn't like it the first time I saw it as a kid, but I didn't like the idea of Jake growing up without his dad....as I've grown older, I appreciate it more and more.

I like Tony Todd, but I didn't like the episode... in part because it "never happens" in a way.

I've said before that it's one of the best episodes of Trek IMO. And it kind of did happen in a way. Sisko should have a memory of his son killing himself so that he wouldn't lose his father. Very touching episode.

And funnily enough

It's exactly what happens at the end of the series. Sisko disappears for an indeterminate amount of time from Jake's life. Only to possibly return sometime.

I would go so far as to place this in the Top 3. The episode tore me apart when I first watched it on it's air date and even after seeing it 6-7 times, I find tears in my eyes. Great writing, great acting and single scene moments that don't leave your mind easily.
I think the greatest testimonial came from my wife, though. I had her watch it-she'd barely seen anything Star Trek at the time-and she bawled her eyes out and called it "beautiful". What more could a show's staff and talent ask for?

You're right happydave. This episode was pretty much a foreshadowing of what happens to Jake in actuality.

Always brings a tear to me eye. My dad and I've watched it together, especially on Father's Day. It's like an annual ritual for us. I'd recommend that to everyone.

Sadly my Dad hates Star Trek :( I wish I had a Dad like urs o well

My dad and I have very similar tastes in movies and TV :) I consider myself lucky, actually.

But not to worry. DOn't feel left out! My brother's made fun of my Trek habit for decades now. My mom can't stand it. And my boyfriend has a healthy ignorance of all things Trek.

My brother's ten-year-old daughter though... is a HUGE Trekkie. Hah! I've had the last laugh you see ;)
