The very best TOS episode

I also have a soft spot for quite a few less brilliant episodes such as the Doomsday Machine, the Enemy Within, the Immunity Syndrome, the Tholian Web, Is their Truth in No Beauty, and All Our Yesterdays. Lots of silliness but great fun.

Say, WHAT?

I think my favorite/the absolute best is "Mirror, Mirror", edging out "Amok Time," "Balance of Terror" and "Space Seed".

The ones I like best are

"Amok Time"
"Journey to Babel"
"The Devil in the Dark"
"The Enterprise Incident"

But there are SO many other good ones! Considering that they were making it all up from scratch and working under serious limitations, it's amazing what they managed to accomplish.

"A Taste of Armageddon"
While I don't think this is my favorite episode (that would be "Shore Leave") or the best (for me, "City" or "Mirror, Mirror"), I do think "Taste" is one of the most representative episodes of TOS. It just has a little bit of everything that made the show so special.

It also has a soft spot for me because the fotonovel of the episode was one of the first two Trek books I ever bought, along with the Star Trek 5 adaptation of episodes by James Blish!

My picks

The Doomsday Machine
Balance of Terror
The Ultimate Computer
The Corbomite Maneuver
Obsession
Arena
The Tholian Web
The Enterprise Incident
Mirror, Mirror
Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
Tomorrow is Yesterday

"City On The Edge of Forever" is the most beautifully acted, directed Star Trek episode Ive ever seen. The hurt look on Shatner's face at the end and his (almost unheard of) curse was just played it so well ("Lets get the hell out of here..."). The NBC wasn't thrilled but they kept it in! Of course "Amok Time", "Journal to Babel", "Doomsday Machine" and "Mirror, Mirror" are so close. Too close to call. All great.

I like the episode where Kirk falls in love.....wait, that's almost every episode. Never mind. I can't decide. It's between Doomsday Machine or Mirror, Mirror.

OK OK, I should rate it more highly but for some reason it's not one I think of when I think of my favourites.

I'm actually with you there. I made a Top 10 list just to post on facebook when I was bored and I didn't put Doomsday Machine on it. It's not that it's a bad episode, it's just that there are episodes that are probably objectively worse that I just enjoy more. Wolf in the Fold and Shore Leave come to mind.

Devil in The Dark is my favourite episode but Amok Time has the best moment- when Spock is really happy to see Kirk and exclaims 'Jim!' Then gathers himself in the next second.
