I had a thread but now it is buried...so I will start again. :)

The series follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls for a century-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Their lives grow more and more complicated as Stefan's vicious brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) returns to town with a vendetta against his brother. Both brothers begin to show affection towards Elena, mainly because of her resemblance to their past love Katherine. It is revealed that Katherine is Elena's doppleganger, who eventually returns with plans against the trio.
The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history. Other storylines revolve around the other inhabitants of the town, most notably Elena's younger brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). The town's politics are orchestrated by descendants of the original founding families, all comprising a "Founders' Council". They guard the town mainly from vampires, but also creatures such as werewolves and witches, some of whom are themselves members of the Founders' Council.

Episode #2.8 “Rose” Official Description
AN ANCIENT PRESENCE IN MYSTIC FALLS — Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) come to Elena’s assistance and, in the process, learn surprising new information about people, vampires and events in the distant past. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) helps Bonnie (Katerina Graham) after she casts a difficult and exhausting spell, and Caroline (Candice Accola) does what she can to make things easier for Tyler (Michael Trevino). Finally, Stefan and Damon reach a new understanding. Liz Friedlander directed the episode written by Brian Young (#208).

Tonights ep was interesting. I am glad this show isn't getting too CW. It seems to have a nice balance of the teen angst & horror. I am glad the story is unfolding at a good pace instead of stalling with non-sense...last season it got slow in a few places but for the most part every ep has been great in season 2.

I think they are building up to the guy who turned Katherine...Klaus.

[edit] If Katherine was the 1st Doppelganger & Elena the 2nd...there has to be an original that looks like them.

One of the things I like about THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the pace. The show just keeps moving and moving, pretty much ignoring the concept of status quo.
 
^ Yeah, this show is already story-wise in less than 1 1/2 seasons where other shows would be in their fourth or fifth season. It's a whirlwind, but it's rather refreshing.

The problem is, as so many other vampire franchises run into (I'm thinking Anne Rice and Laurell K. Hamilton off the top of my head), you eventually have to keep running into older and older generations of vamps to have stronger bad guys to fight. Then what happens when you run into the oldest? You're done or you're stalemated.

That said, the fact that S&D or even Rose did not behead Elijah, then burn the remains means they really are young and stupid and deserve to have him come kick their butts. Seriously? Just leave him impaled there?

Also, did I misunderstand but didn't Trevor indicate that his sin was that he turned Katherine thus preventing her from being a kill-able doppelganger to whoever the original Petrova is? I figured Klaus is connected to the original - which means Nina D will be getting to play a third character soon! Go girl!

I'm also loving the Jeremy/Bonnie developing chemistry - I didn't see that one coming at all till they spotlighted it last week. But since Jeremy has been my fave character since ep 1, I'm happy to finally see him getting some romance potential with one of the good girls on the show - even if I also would have been happy with the Damon/Bonnie hookup that seemed to be developing.

I am gonna have to re-watch...but you may be right...I didn't get all that conversation when I watched last night...my TV kept going out and it was distracting.

I love the pace of the show.

I don't remember them saying that Trevor turned Katherine, just that he helped her escape the Originals years ago. I assumed that Trevor was just another of Katherine's lovestruck pawns.

And, yeah, I love the pacing on this show. There's a couple of major twists or revelations every episode.
 
I actually haven't seen this weeks episode yet, but I still wanted to come in and say that I'm a huge fan of this show. I actually just started watching it this season (I haven't even seen Season 1 yet) but it has quickly become one of my favorites.

Good question. I mean they've got werewolves on the show this season even though they haven't fully maximized their usage. They could continue developing them, or delve more into witches/warlocks (like I feel True Blood is going to do next season), or other supernatural beings. I mean, there's a lot of creatures/monsters they could throw at them. Ghosts, demons, etc., etc. Supernatural has done a good job coming up with various creatures for the brothers to fight for six seasons so I'm sure the VD group can too.

BTW, count me as a fan of this show. I love how it just throws all these dark twists at you.
 
Yeah I've been a fan of the show since the pilot. And it's been consistently good. This week's episode had the added bonus of the lovely Lauren Cohen. ;)
 
Does anyone know how close it is to the books? I doubt that I'll actually read them, I'm just curious since some of these shows are almost word for word (True Blood), and some are totally unrelated (Dexter after Season 1).

Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig) try to be honest about their feelings for one another, and Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) reaction to Caroline’s generosity comes as a surprise to her. Damon struggles to hide his true feelings when a life-and-death crisis hits him harder than he expected. Matt Davis also stars. Pretty good ep. Looks like Damon has slipped back to the dark side. :lol: Also looks like a war between vamps and werewolves is coming into play.
 
Good episode. Note to self: Never babysit a vampire with dementia!

Has nobody discovered the dead campers yet? The sheriff didn't seem terribly concerned about it (or her missing deputy).
 
Good episode. I'm sad to see Rose go so soon though, I liked her. Very curious to see where they're going with the other werewolves heading for them, and Damon apparently going evil. I wonder if it'll be a one time thing, or if it's gonna be an arc?
 
Yeah even though I knew it was coming, I'm also sad to see Rose go. Partly because I really liked the character, and partly because I adore Lauren Cohan. ;)

Oh well, she'll soon be showing up on my favourite show that's currently on air, so that's useful. :p

^ Yeah I know and I really liked the episode. It's just that every time Cohan shows up on a show I like, they kill her off.
