The Vampire Diaries. CW greenlights new Vampire show.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

It's only 6:45 here in Cali and I'm debating whether to reprogram my VCR to tape this thing...should I just forget it? ;)

Save yourself.
Trite, cliched, teen angst ridden crap sugarcoated with some Vampire mythos to draw in the Twilight crowd.
The worst POS I've had the displeasure of seeing in a while, next to American Idol...

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

I saw fifteen minutes of it, before I had to switch away to save my TV. I was getting ready to throw a brick at it.

Yeah, it'll be a hit, I bet.

It was the CW's highest-rated premiere ever.

Nothing too original, but I got a nostalgic DARK SHADOWS vibe off it. Especially with Elena apparently being the reincarnation of some long-lost love . . . .

I caught the last 15 minutes or so of it. Sommerhalder was sure doing his best to chew the scenery entertainingly, but the rest of em might as well have been furniture.

It's not very often I don't even bother checking out a new genre show, but I have a feeling this is going to be one of those times.

I just might have to add it to my Netflix queue...after I get done with The Sopranos and Six Feet Under (both of which I have yet to see at all).

To be fair, Sommerhalder was the only saving grace for that show, so I'd agree with you there Temis.

As for True Blood, I'm a fan as well, and would back up Melancholy on that recommendation.

Vampire Diaries Drinking Game

Drink every time

-Elena says "my parents are dead"
-Stefan acts suspicious
-Younger brother Jeremy gets brushed off by chick that deflowered him
-Blonde slut complains
-Bonnie, the token ethnic girl who only hangs with white kids, has a psychic moment

Ah, hell, you'd be wasted by the half hour mark.

What is it with Williamson and the absent or dead parents theme? I mean, that was already there from the books, I guess...so he latched onto the project because he loves he idea of teens who have no adult accountability.

First half hour? I only saw the first 15 minutes and was sick of all the above - can't imagine I'd be sober, either!

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

It was a cheap Twilight knock-off, but I found Twilight to be far worse. I just wish they would make the vampire a Goddamn monster for once. This guy is so nice and sweet. I kept waiting for him to write poetry at some point in the show. I was really disappointed by the reincarnation thing. True Blood is so much better. If you have to make a choice, watch that one instead.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

Just stick to True Blood for TV vampires. Nothing else really comes close in drama, humor, guts, and pure daring.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

I taped. I wanted to see what God's gift had gotten up to after LOST.

I.S. was the only actor on the show. Damning with faint praise.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

God, yes. At long last... another vampire show.
CW, please be advised I am greenlighting my own cynicism.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

I'm going to go slightly against the grain here. I decided to check out the show despite having misgivings. It wasn't as bad as I thought, though that's not saying its all that good either.

One thing that I noticed was a blase kind of attitude, on the part of the TV producers, regarding underage drinking. I was a bit surprised to see almost all the teens drinking alcohol, even the good girl Elena. I thought the show opened with more bite (pun intended) than I expected, but after that I guess it's all Twilight-lite (never saw the movie but it seems like it has that kind of vibe). I'm not sure why Elena wasn't freaked out when Stefan just shows up and disappears, or why she invited him into her house at the end, when it was late as hell at night. Where was her aunt? The evil brother Damon has a nasty enough smirk and I did like how they explained why Stefan could walk in the sunlight and that he was weaker than Damon because he didn't feast on human blood. I also didn't quite buy the dialogue the teens were speaking. I've been out of high school for a long time now, but I just can't see kids today saying some of those lines. How many teens know about Hitchcock or The Birds for example?

I think it has the potential to be a guilty pleasure and perhaps a safer alternative to the Twilight movies and it should do well perhaps for its core audience, which I'm assuming are young teenage girls. I was reared on Blade and he would've chopped up diary writing vamps like Stefan in seconds.

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

Entertainment Weekly(subscriber here) loves the show(then again they seem to love anything with vampires these days...I think theyve had Twilight on the cover 4 times now.)

Re: CW greenlights new Vampire show

I don't think I even lasted five minutes. 'tis good though I watch too much TV as it is.
