My Spidey sense is tingling! I suppose this could be useful in several ways... search and rescue, commando raids, but they may have to quiet it down a bit!

Just schedule your raid of the building for when the cleaning crew is inside vacuuming the floor. It should mask the sound nicely.

My question is, how would it cope with a rougher wall surface where it's harder to get a vacuum seal?

The contact rubber or material that acts as the seal would have to be fine and flexible enough to provide an adequate seal.. a simple rubber may be enough to press it well to the surface to create a good seal.

Anyway.. cool idea and it's interesting to see what weird programs the military sponsors in the hope that something sticks and actually becomes applicable.
