The USS Enterprise NCC-1701/1701-A appreciation thread

Fair enough, they're the most financially successful Trek films ever, it ain't going to hurt them any, I'll just make up the shortfall for you anyway.

I've seen each of the Abrams films four times in the theater and bought them twice on Blu-ray. I can't see that changing for Star Trek Beyond! :techman:

If you count by return of investment, they're not. Not even close.

They're also not very successful if you only count the 3D IMAX showings on a Tuesday, three weeks after release.

Paramount walked away with roughly a hundred-million in profit from each of the Abrams films when all was said and done. Not exactly failures, no matter how one wishes to slice it.

Oh certainly not failures. But I still think RAI is pretty sensible way to gauge success. Of course a movie with bigger budget is expected to make more money than one with a smaller budget.

Enough to keep signing off on $100-200 million sequels, something oldTrek dreamed of but never came close to.

Perhaps a dose of theragen is in order in such cases, preferably mixed with Scotch. ;)

I kinda like the TMP cues on the "new" Enterprise. Arguably it's the Aztec hull plating pattern and registry lettering that are the most obvious examples of that, but then those features and others (like blue deflector lighting) have been standard features of starship design in all Trek iterations since TMP.

There's thread drift all over these forums.
Thread drift is one thing, but this TOS/Movie era Enterprise VS JJverse is completely off topic, and not the intention of this thread. When I started it, I had hoped we could have a thread dedicated to the appreciation of the original and refit NCC-1701, without negativity, or dragging JJ Abrams into it.

BillJ, I know you are pretty sensitive to criticism of the JJverse, and I am not saying those who criticized JJverse in this thread are right, either, but dang guys, grow up. Can't we have one thread without arguing over the JJverse? It's here, for good or bad. If you want to debate its merrits, create another thread, or take it to PM. Don't hijack an image appreciation thread and turn it into something it was never intended to be.

Sooo, back on topic....

When I started it, I had hoped we could have a thread dedicated to the appreciation of the original and refit NCC-1701, without negativity, or dragging JJ Abrams into it. And by the way, over in the JJ forum, I created a similar thread celebrating the JJ version of the Enterprise, as well.

I mentioned I ranked the Abrams version over the refit, but you were the one to start posting images.

I know I'm the popular guy to blame when a thread gets derailed because I like the Abrams films. But maybe you should complain to Warped9 who started the whole thing with the "crap" and "distorted thinking" comments.

As I said, those who criticized JJ in this thread aren't right, either. And I am in no way criticizing JJ in this thread. And I can respect the fact you may be a fan of the JJverse. Warped9 shouldn't have gone off topic, either.

But again, this is not the thread to take up that argument.
