The USS Enterprise NCC-1701/1701-A appreciation thread

I hope that when the Smithsonian finishes their refurb of the old girl that they take a lot of HD pictures of her all lit up in front of a blue screen. And properly lit for photography. And show how great she would look in a movie setting.

These pictures demonstrate well that the new Enterprise has basically the same configuration and form as the previous ships. Which basically makes fan whining about it amount to nostalgia.

Configuration has nothing to do with strength of design sensibility, which is what is being considered in the thread. The JJ ship has no lasting appeal (who ever refers to it when ever referencing the Enterprise?), and looks like a cross between bad custom show cars and bulky TV remotes of the 1990s.

Good Thread!

My best/favorite pictures of her are in my head and imagination...

...but I do love her,

Agree. I'm a hardcore left-brainer all the way down to my aesthetic tastes. I find linear, angular shapes more attractive, so the Refit/-A are my favorites, although TOS Enterprise a close second because it is just so right.

One of my biggest complaints with the JJ movies is the swoopiness and curviness of the ship, it's lost all angular beauty of the TOS/film versions. It is like some custom shaved, chopped show rod that bears little resemblance to the original body The trailers I've seen for the upcoming film imply the JJ-Prise suffers tremendous damage, maybe enough to warrant a redesigned replacement if/when a fourth film comes to be.

I absolutely love the refit Enterprise, it has always been my favourite. The Original version is great too. Still not sure about the NuTrek version, it looks good at some angles and bad in others.

I think Jefferies' refit needs some lovin' here. I threw together a quick-n-dirty PDF version of the history of the design and studio model for anyone who might want it...

And if anyone liked my stylized cover art, here is a copy of that...

And some shots of her in action...

And how she might have looked behind the scenes...

Would she have worked as nicely as the TMP Enterprise? I don't know.

... I know a lot of people don't like this version, but I like where Jefferies was going with the design.
