The USFL is back? Why?

Someone "UFL insider" with less than 300 followers claimed Seattle was getting their team back and then deleted the tweet.

The rumors now is that the four teams in the USFL division will all be moved. That would be Houston, Birmingham, Memphis and Detroit.

If they do move the Houston franchise, I won't miss them. I just hope their new city renames them and gives them new uniforms. The Roughnecks helmets are the most gawdawful helmets in the entire galaxy. Now I would have missed the Houston franchise if they were the Gamblers, just cause of their cool helmets.

I guess expansion is off the table?

Looks like Boise, Columbus, Orlando and Louisville.

Whether this rumor is true or not, I would find it difficult to justify moving Birmingham who has very good attendance and a long standing fan base. And a good HC.

Are the USFL teams only allowed to move to cities that had OG USFL teams so they can use those nicknames and logos?

Maybe they can create a CFL division with the Sacramento Gold Miners, Las Vegas Posse and Shreveport Pirates.

The USFL can rest in peace now that it is no longer part of this awful experiment. I do wonder if there is some kind of payment due if the USFL teams still existed? Because, IIRC, FOX and those that started the new version actually didn't own any of the IP involved. Some kind of payment due to continue to use that IP?

As far as possible new cities go? I don't much understand what any of them bring to the league? Columbus already has a lot of competition in the Spring, with minor league baseball, the Blue Jackets, Ohio State basketball, hockey and baseball, and the MLS Crew. I have to imagine the plan there is to play at the Crew's venue as there is no way they could look respectable trying to fill the OSU football stadium. The Ohio Glory failed miserably thirty years ago trying to play there.

Orlando? I can go to Disney World or sit in 100 degree Florida heat to watch minor league football. I know they see what the Raiders have done in Vegas and are going to try to follow that formula, but these folks aren't the NFL.

Louisville? Why not. Beyond NCAA basketball they don't have much in the way of competition in the Spring. Same with Boise. Though both are small markets and don't bring much in the way to the TV table.

Going from announced expansion to replacing half the league's current markets isn't a very stable look. Internally, the league must be near flatlining to have to go to these extremes to try and survive.

Expansion in the middle of mass relocation isn't something that goes together.

Guy on spring football-focused website claims Boise, Columbus, Florida (Orlando?) and Kentucky (Louisville or Lexington?) are getting the relocated teams.
