The unofficial Rock Band thread.

The saddest part is that I'm quite sure that's the game we would be getting if Activision had made this.

The obvious joke they could've gone for would've been the Activision guy saying they even fixed the spelling mistake when making "Guitar Hero: The Beetles" because that's just how dedicated they are to their craft. :p

Oh dear(from Joystiq):

If you were disgusted by the inclusion of a playable Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5, you weren't the only one: Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, has gone on record (well, on Twitter, anyway, in what looks a lot like Courtney Love's real Twitter account) to register her disapproval, saying, "For the record this Guitar Hero (expletive) is breach of contract on a Bullys part and there will be a proper addressing of this and retraction." Love plans to "sue the (expletive) out of Activision," speaking for herself, Cobain's estate, and "the various LLCs Cobain Enterprises."

She claims to have never given approval for a Kurt Cobain avatar. "We have NOTHING to do with this," she said across two tweets (presented here as originally typed, with the exception of connecting the two messages). "it was presented to me and oi said 'show me a better avataR' TO DRAG MY HEELS., never did i intend on allowing GUITARHERO for me or for Kurt i am NOT yoko (expletive) Ono no ofense to her, but i am a different person entirely and this is insane."

The Cobain avatar was upsetting enough when we thought Love had signed off on it. But now that we hear she hasn't, we're worried for our own sakes. We could all end up playable in a Guitar Hero game at any time.

Update:
This morning, we reported on Courtney Love's tweeted allegations that the ghastly Kurt Cobain avatar was included in Guitar Hero 5 without her consent. Though the company didn't mention whether or not the lawsuit has actually been filed against them, Activision just sent us a statement refuting Love's claims:

"Guitar Hero secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain's likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero(r) 5."

Maybe Love did sign off on it, but just doesn't remember. There, we said it. We were all thinking it anyway.[/QUOTE]

Lol...

So anyone playing the Beatles game? I'm not in to the beatles but I still enjoyed the game. Most of the songs are really fun to play, and the little animated sequences were really cool.

Anvil?

Awesome!

I must say, one of the funniest things i ever saw in video games would be Johnny Cash getting down when singing "Play that funky music, white boy" in Guitar Hero 5...

^haven't gotten GH5 yet, but in GHWT having Ozzy sing La Bamba was pretty hilarious.

I thought it was really kinda chuckle-worthy seeing male characters singing with female voices and vice-versa.

I beat the Endless Setlist 2 on Medium yesterday with 5 stars on each song. It took me 7 hours with a short break every 12th song. While I do feel a sense of accomplishment, I find myself angry at the game design decision to make the Endless Setlist the way it is.

For one thing, it takes up pretty much half a waking day. That's not a good thing either socially or physically. The alternative is to manually break it up with pauses, causing unnecessary power consumption and preventing the use of the TV until it is finished.

Why couldn't they put in a temp save feature? Even real bands seldom play for more than 2 hours in a set without a break, and I've never heard of any band playing for over 6 hours straight. Allowing a save every 20th song would be a nice compromise between stamina and reality.

I don't plan on doing the ES2 on Hard or Expert. As Han Solo said, "No reward is worth this."

Wow, impressive. We actually held a party to do the ES1 on hard for the first rockband, that got pretty grueling by the end. I thought that ES2 didn't allow pausing? That's the only reason we haven't done it yet.

There's an Iron Bladder achievement for beating the game on endless without pausing... which is just insane.

Yeah, I'm a huge Beatle fan and am loving it. I haven't played Rock Band in awhile, but me and my friends are (and my dad, who's a big Beatle's fan as well) are loving The Beatles Rock Band. I never liked singing in Rock Band, but I am singing my tail off in this one - mainly because I already know the songs inside and out already anyway, the harmonies are really fun to do too. I am just having a lot of fun with it personally.
