Leaving aside your opinions of the show, in general terms (including aesthetic, functionality, technical and so forth) do you like the design of Star Trek Enterprise's titular ship?

I always liked the NX-class, but it really took me awhile for me to accept it as a pre-TOS design. When I saw it alongside a Constitution-class onscreen, however, I finally saw it as just an issue of different aesthetics more than anything else.

I like the Drexler refit better than the original, but all in all the NX is pretty cool.

Retroactively speaking, I also like the idea that the Akira class was deliberately designed as an homage to the NX. ;)

It looked like an earlier generation ship should look in the Trekverse. The doors didn't open automatically, you had to hit a button. The cabins and passages were smaller and darker. Sometimes things didn't work properly. It was generally well thought out and believable.

Most believable ship in the trek cannon imo. Loved that they installed better transporters and torpedoes and whatnot throughout the course of the show. Really caught my imagination as a kid and brought me into trek

I also like the fact that there are handholds all over the place just in case the artificial gravity ever failed.

I guess my only real problem with the NX (and other United Earth Starfleet ships), is that there was no registry prefix. It is a United Earth ship, after all, shouldn't it be something like U.E.S. Enterprise?

I love it. Not only one of the better starship designs in Star Trek, also one of the most thought through design, especially interior design.

In the ENT episode "Divergence," there was a major monitor display where both NX-01 Enterprise and NX-02 Columbia had U.S.S, prefixes, but using them may not have been a common practice for ships in the Earth Starfleet.

Well, painting them on was not a common practice - after all, painting anything on the hull seemed to be a rarity! The Boomer ships had names, but no registry numbers. The Starfleet sidekick ships didn't have names or registries on them at all.

Doesn't mean every Starfleet ship would not have been USS Insertname. After all, computer displays readily associated registries with the ECS ships. It's just that we never got a computer display on USS Intrepid, NCA-59 or whatever...

I've left this here primarily due to....laziness.

Should this be moved to Enterprise, or is there some specific reason this was put here?

I considered that myself, but figured the poll would be getting a more biased sample in the ENT forum.

Didn't love it until I got the Art Asylum model. Now I think she's purdy.

I think the USS Franklin is more purdy, though. The angles on her nacelle pylons evoke the refit Enterprise, somehow.

The NX-01 is one of my favorite starships (together with the Kelvin and the Franklin). I liked from the start and never understood the Akira criticism which focuses too much ao Details while I think the overall impression of the two ships are very different. The Akira evokes more an impression of force like a tank with that thick primary hull, the massive struts and the forward-facing warp nacelles.

The NX class looks more like what it is: the fastest starship mankind ever made. It has a much more elegant and streamlined profile though the metallic hull surface is much more rustic than ohne of the sleek "white ships" of the 23th und 24th century. And the interior is great too! After TNG and VOY I was sick of that standard Starfleet design (aka resused sets). The interior of the NX-01 was a most welcome departure from the well-known Starfleet design. I especially like engineering and the warp reactor.

Armory is great, too. I can easily visualize the part they couldn't afford to show: those torpedoes in the wall magazines racheting towards their launching positions, clickety-clack, clickety-clack, with the pistons pushing them in at breakneck speed for volley fire.

...The only bit I have misgivings about is the transporter alcove. Why is this device, originally designed for cargo, located in a random corridor? A cargo hold would make more sense. The machine could have been made to look more utilitarian there, too, surrounded by all sorts of inelegant gadgetry.
