The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Was it just me, or was the first half of the series a lot funnier than the second half? I just remember LOLing constantly in the early episodes, and not so much towards the end. I liked the ending trilogy, particularly for the Reverend, but it was less funny and more story/plot interesting.

I have watched the first episode. It's cute! I appreciate that it's only 30 minutes long, I don't think it would work well at all at an hour. I also think that Ellie Kemper is absolutely perfect in the role - I can't imagine a better fit!

i liked it a lot, but the last few episodes didn't seem as good. too much was taken up by the courtroom and the unfunny idiot policeman. the plot got in the way of the jokes.

I can't say I didn't enjoy it as I watched the whole series in a couple of days but I don't think it is as good as the hype I've been seeing.

I finished it yesterday. I'd give it a solid "B".

I like the step-dad! He's hilarious.

What will happen to poor Kimmy now that Dong is married? How will going back to her roots change Jenna Maroney (I don't remember her character's name, I guess that's not a good sign!)?

Glad we have another season to look forward to.

:techman:

I'm more interested that the second season will be free of any Network standards. I don't know if that necessarily means Tina Fey will add more language or whatever, but it could possibly mean that the show will have a bit of a harder edge, as you 1001001 (and a few of my friends) have been saying.

I have two episodes left, but I am so in love with this show. I'm in it for the long haul.

My understanding is they were only going to be on the air for the first half of S1, after that they knew it was going to Netflix.

Just because they can show graphic sex scenes in the bunker now, it doesn't mean that Tina has to.

Maybe she likes PG, or maybe this story is PG and it shouldn't be reclassified.

Restraint is a useful tool a lot of the time too.

If Tina had been building a possibly (verbally) graphic show for Netflix, it would have been starring the Jenna-Maroni-like (What about a Gotham crossover? Boss Maroni has a niece named Jenna?) character who could take the story to obscene places.

Kimmy shouldn't to go obscene places.

Sometimes I think she's 12 pretending to be 30.

That bunker really arrested her development.

Did anyone find the bunker dresses hot, anyone, anyone?

I suggest a little bit of an edge and you immediately leap to graphic sex scenes :p

There's nothing wrong with giving a little bit more bite to the humor without changing the tone of the show. Tina Fey seems like a PG-13 type person to me anyways, so I doubt she'd go full on f-bombs with this show, but I could see them going a little darker with a bit of the humor, especially given Kimmys prior living conditions.

In all seriousness, I was very unclear whether Reverend Gary was actually having sex with them. Because he was ONLY on trial for kidnapping them, not raping them. And Kimmy was underaged when he took her. But why would a insane cult leader kidnap four women, keep them in a dungeon, and NOT have sex with them? In the pilot Kimmy mentions there was weird sex stuff in the bunker. Was that only among the women? They did show Kimmy pretending to be the other girl's high school crush... was that all she meant?

He just wanted slaves to turn the crank?

Feeding them had to be more expensive than an electricity bill?

And that crank could probably barely keep one light bulb going, god forbid his home entertainment centre. Unless for every week they cranked, he got two hours in his man cave?

Free power is better than sex?

Kimmy also injures her blonde boyfriend trying to have sex with him. Which makes me think the Reverend was doing weird things to them if that's what Kimmy believes sex is.

So I just finished the last two episodes. Whoever said it earlier in the thread was right, the humor is a bit lacking in these episodes mostly because it's more plot driven. But my biggest issue with the trial episodes was the characters played by Tina Fey and Jerry Minor. Thier incompetent Lawyer characters were dead weight (at least to me). I didn't find them funny at all and thought it would have been funnier if they were really good lawyers but just losing to the Reverend. As they were felt too easy.

There are three eras in the development of this show.

1. You are on NBC.

2. You're probably cancelled, wrap it up.

3. Oh, Netflix wants you.

It's just a question of how long stage three lasted.

I was about to say stage 3 probably only came up after the show was started shooting. Except there doesn't appear to be any traditional breaks where a commercial would normally start.

Just to be clear, you are aware that was a prolonged parody of the OJ Simpson trial, right? She was playing Marcia Clark.

I watched the first three episodes this morning, and will probably finish the season before the end of the week. Thank you everyone for bringing this show to my attention.

Yeah, I got that. It doesn't make it any funnier to me.

Wow. Kind of surprised Fey would go for something that out of date.
