The ultimate science fiction TV remake thread

In light of the recent news that a certain beloved franchise is returning to TV, what other vintage shows would you like to see re-made, re-booted, or continued?

I would want to see "The Time Tunnel." I have fond memories of watching it when I was little, but I now realize it was pretty silly. I would like a more serious take on the concept.

"The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" could be a pretty impressive endeavor on contemporary TV. Let's just pretend the movie never happened.

And then there's Blake's Seven.

Thoughts?

"Time Tunnel", for sure!
"Max Headroom"
"Johnny Mnemonic" (a serialization)
"Journey to the Beginning of Time"

(would Love to say "Lost In Space", but they been too many times at that well...)

Did someone say "Time Tunnel"?

Here ya go!

I've seen that Time Tunnel pilot and it wasn't too bad. Had some interesting ideas that might have made for a fun series had it gone forward.

Would like to see Andromeda re-done with a real budget and with Robert Hewitt Wolfe left alone todo it the way he wants to.

Wouldn't mind a new version of Space: 1999 with a lot less silliness in the science. I've got some ideas for some fun stuff you could do with a stranded moonbase...

I've also got some ideas for bringing back Filmation's Space Academy and Jason of Star Command.

Really? Which one?

For continued, I'd probably say Earth 2. There was potential there that never got to be realized. (There are a large number of other continuations I'd like to see, but I doubt they meet the criteria of "vintage".)

As far as remakes... I'm thinking a modern take on the Buck Rogers concept could actually have the potential to be good.

And then there's Blake's Seven.
Before we start remaking it... could we actually get a region 1 DVD release of the original? :(

Yes, please. And while we're at it, a release of the short-lived series Hypernauts on DVD would be welcome.

Also, I with the need for a new non-camp, non-cheeseey version Buck Rogers. For a taste of what might have been had we not been inflicted with Glen Larson and Gil Gerard, go here: http://space1970.blogspot.com/2012/02/buck-rogers-lost-tv-series.html

I was thinking there was some lousy SyFy remake of "Buck Rogers" about eight years ago, but I looked it up and it was actually a lousy "Flash Gordon" remake. :ack:

Quantum Leap and Sliders

Yes, yes a thousand times yes. Sliders!

I'll love the show as a guilty pleasure but the writing was absolute crap. The show has just about the best sci-fi premise ever. Every episode a new alternate universe. So many possibilities! If only........

Manimal and the Man from Atlantis.

I agree Sliders would be good.

Good one! SeaQuest season 1 is one of my favourite 90s scifi shows... what followed some of my most hated.

I would have liked to see where they went with Threshold. The multi-year plan they laid out sounded interesting, so would love to see that come back.

A reboot of Space: Above and Beyond could be interesting too.

Yeah, I should have added that ONLY the first season be remade, the other two....well.......they did some good stuff, but season one was where the show was at it's best.

Yes!!!! You read my mind!
I especially loved JoSC. If that show could be updated, made just a little more grown up, without being over the top dark and edgy, I think it could rock.

I was even working on a treatment to update JoSC years ago. It would've gone some into the back story of Dragos, who was (as established in one episode) the Prime Minister of Klaavu, and somehow overthrew the royal family to become its dictator, and from there, began his megalomaniacal rise to "Ruler of the Universe". :)
