Clearly there is.

If it's shrill and pointless why are you continuing to read and respond to this thread?

No matter how dumb and shrill we are... someone has to come in and defend the honor of Star Trek 2009. Which means someone's constantly monitoring the board for real and perceived slights against 'The Eighth Wonder'.

Goddamn they're chivalrous.

He wouldn't do the latter - he and everyone involved are justifiably proud of it. One of my favorite movies of the last decade, too.

They killed Wash  Now how can you resurrect the series without your plucky comic relief?

First time I saw the film, I thought they were going to kill every last one of the characters.

The reaction Whedon was evidently hoping for by killing a couple of them.

He's said that there are ways that he'd utilize the dead characters in later movies if he had the opportunity, which don't involve bringing them back to life.

Alex1939, I don't care for the "reading comprehension" crack, not from anyone—it's a cheap shot and nothing more—but I'll let it pass just this once as there are a whole lot of people in this thread making titanic efforts at not getting the point of what others are saying.

This, though...

That is ignorant.

You've done a great job displaying that. And paranoia.
...I don't want to see. It's quite possible to discuss the topic (whatever it may be) without getting personal.

Honestly, you guys are as bad as the Voyager crowd, where every criticism of Janeway is followed by "YOU ARE SEXIST".
You could probably have skipped this, as well -- taking a slap at the whole forum almost never achieves the right effect.

Yeah, I figured it was him manipulating us pretty masterfully. It wasn't Book's death that did it, it was Wash's very sudden, very brutal demise. So damn good and so damn memorable.

Yeah.

I never thought "they're all going to die" because commercial action films don't work that way - 20th would have freaked at the script and that would have been that. However, I wasn't at all sure who would survive and who wouldn't.
