Yeah, that works too. But I still say the redux fits into there as well. Baltar was a human watching his homeworld destroyed by the Cylons. At the end of the show, Baltar is still alive, free, and wanders off into the wilderness with the rest of the idiots.

I think it's just as entertaining watching you guys jump through all kinds of hoops to discredit the success of a Star Trek film.

I don't think I've once tried to discredit the success of this film... it grossed $400 million dollars worldwide.

I have tried to sit down and have discussions on my perceived issues with the film and no one ever wants to discuss it. It's like Star Trek 2009 is the eighth wonder of the world and it is a sin to question anything about it.

Hitchhiker's Guide the The Galaxy
Doctor Who
Flash Gordon
Battlestar Gallactica
Titan AE
Darkspore
Commander Perkins
Superman Comics
Flash Gordon (serials)

Just to name a few..
Yes, I've always thought the best defense against claims of unoriginality is to list a load others just like it.

However you want to define it..It comes to my point that the memes in ST and SW aren't simply just copying one another, as some posters are blindly insisting.

That partial list was also posted as a request from another poster.. so once again, you have missed the point by moving the goalposts and changing the argument because you cannot win with yours.

So Spock is Princess Leia?
I thought Spock was supposed to be Obi Wan..

But oldSpock doesn't do anything in this movie that Obi Wan did in Star Wars, except explain some backstory to nuKirk in one scene. Oh, and be the oldest person in the movie.

The naysayers are hanging their argument on shit like that? Oh boy...:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

BTW and just in general - virtually all commercial Hollywood films are made and have been made for decades according to a single story plan, with minor variatons. The Wedding Planner and Star Wars and When Harry Met Sally share the same story beats. So if one abstracts a plot in terms general enough it's not difficult to find similarities and no one should be surprised.

I don't think I'd ever arrive at a copying conclusion but all the signs are there for heavily influenced by which some posters are blindly denying.

I'm not blindly denying anything regarding SW and ST influences on one another. If anything, I have pointed out how all the films and series have influenced each other and that it is not as big a deal.

I am defending the blind assertion by those who insist that JJ is turning St into SW, which is pretty silly.

You're right. I'm glad we've agreed that there are many similarities between the two films.

Well it's obviously not literally being changed into Star Wars, but Star Wars was the first real breakthrough sci-fi action movie and as Abrams has often stated that he is a Star Wars fan (this evidence is permissible, thank you) it's natural that his take on Star Trek reflects this.

In the process he made this new film reflect the action and adventure of the series, which was missing from all the other films in the franchise. Read the rest of my posts for my other thoughts on the whole SW analogy.. I'm done repeating myself to those who refuse to listen.

I'm happy to leave it too, but this:

The only thing this has in common with Star Wars is that it takes place in space.
...is false.

Whatever.. It doesn't make you any more right.

And it doesn't make Trek 09 any less a Star Trek film.

Most, if not all, of the comparisons presented as "proof" are superficial and meaningless.
