I am sorry Dennis they won´t call Meyer, Frakes, Carson or Nimoy. Not even Stuart Baird will get a call. You have to let go of the old Trek.
And JJ Abrams won´t have any problems letting Bay direct since he´s a democrat and loves to spread the wealth around. Master Bay will gladly accept when his apprentice calls.

JJ pretty much turned Trek into Star Wars, and Bay would end up making Starfleet too much like the American military, and have explosions every 20 seconds.
And some of us prefer the old Trek over 2009's, thank you.

Not so much.. If anything this film was closer to TOS in terms of the action and adventure, while the theme was just a more generic kind of thing rather than a Star Trek thing.
Well, you might want to consider something.
Get out your torches and pitchforks, but some folks, like myself....HATE Star Wars...both old and new. And I hate how Star Wars is THE STANDARD on how ALL sci-fi, past and present, is to be judged.
I wanna see "To Boldy Go Where No One Has Gone Before" and not large scale battles and explosions all the time.
Like Picard once asked, "Remember when we used to be explorers?" I want to see the exploration return, instead of dealing with another villain.
They say Star Trek is like classical music, while Star Wars is rock and roll. Some of us want to see that classical music stay alive.
Am I the only one who feels the same about this?
Actually, I'm imagining the movie "Armageddon" converted into a Star Trek movie with an only slightly different plot.
I'll go and see it. I'll enjoy the flashy action scenes, the big explosions, the crazy over-the-top stunt flying by shuttles/starships/random objects blown about by explosions. I'll leave the theatre thinking I've just seen the most spectacular starship battle in the history of Trek. And then I'll go home and cry.
It'll be just like Nemesis all over again.

Are you the only one who wants to spend $8.50 to see the sci-fi equivalent of classical music? Probably not, but it's a short list.
Just our of curiosity, what would be the sci-fi equivalent of South Side Blues? Firefly, maybe? If you cast Nathan Fillion as Harry Mudd, we might get an interesting deep space manhunt story going.

While TOS had action, it was usually to serve some sort of purpose or illustrate some sort of point. Star Wars, on the other hand was action for the sake of taking characters on an emotional journey. ST09 was the same way as there really was no greater point, it was just fun.
Plus, the themes of a rebellious youth going from being a nobody to a quite important somebody guided by the hand of fate couldn't be that much closer to Star Wars.
Star Trek XII needs humping dogs and Megan Fox... so... Bay.
