The UFL - are they serious?

So, any takers on how long it will take before the UFL goes belly up?

Upstart leagues like this never last long. The XFL didn't, and I don't see this lasting much longer.

They'll at least last longer than the XFL, considering their inaugural season ends next month. It's difficult to lose a whole lot of money when you only play six games. After that we'll see. They seem to believe in small growth, not competing directly with the NFL, a pretty good business plan (if they stick to it) and owners with deep pockets and a willingness to lose money for a while.

Well, I won't be watching, but I can't hope for it to fail. During the long, dark post-Colts, Pr-Ravens NFL interregnum in Baltimore, we did have a Canadian Football League team, and that provided a welcome substitute until the Ravens came to town. I won't begrudge these smaller markets the partial satisfaction of having a semi-pro option like this.

XFL was stupid, that why it failed. The rule changes were just dumb and not thought out, that's why it failed.

They only have 4 teams and the color schemes are the same?

The UFL has a better chance of succeeding than other leagues because they are not even trying to become a competitor of the NFL. It seems more like their goal is to become a minor league system for the NFL, and there's a bit more room for that now that NFL Europe and the Arena Football League are gone.

They're not trying to compete and they're not trying to make stupid rule changes. Overall, that means it's not too bad. It's a good way to give markets without football teams a chance (something that competitor leagues in the past did successfully).

Remember, the USFL in the 80's was VERY successful until they expanded too quickly and then wasted all of their money on a ridiculous anti-trust lawsuit against the NFL.

If the UFL expands at a reasonable pace, they may be a viable alternative to the NFL.

I think it's a decent idea. They are not marketing it as an alternative or competition to the NFL. I think the intent is to be a high level minor league that can serve as a feeder to NFL clubs.

I believe they rolled out 4 teams with a 6 game schedule is a model. If successful, they will expand. There is a huge market for football out there and a number of cities with no team (Vegas, Orlando) or a market with a stranglehold on NFL tickets (NY).

I don't think its gimmick like the XFL was.

Bitch ass Comcast took versus channel out from Directv for no reason. Now, no thanks to Comcast, I can't watch UFL football! Thanks a lot, Greedy Comcast!
