The Trek Anthology I Would Like To See

It will not avail you when I let go of the dead-man's switch....

Who says I need to be in the bar? Or in the hotel for that matter? You forget....your tax dollars were well-spent, teaching me to do this kind of shit from a distance.

^ A set up like that, and it includes me? With firearms? Sorry, dudes and dudettes, but the smart money's on me and Rich White.

Come with us if you want to live.
Unless you end up taking each other out in an old-school, John Woo kind of scene. And check out Rich's post . . . were I you, I'd keep an eye on that one. I'm just saying.

Hold on... a hotel bar full of, what, 30, 40 gun-wielding authors... and the editor is the one to survive?? Come on...
Remember, he got Piked by someone . . . perhaps a certain someone from Minneapolis . . . not that I'm naming names . . .

My question is: Where's KRAD while this is going on? 'Cause you just know he's going to step out of the wreckage with a detailed list of who shot who and in what order.
He and Christopher would have made it, but they refused medical treatment while finishing the list. Few have actually read the list, however, because of the open-ended debate about whether you should read Articles of the Federation first.

... can't breathe...

... laughing too hard...

ow...

Actually I would've fled at the first sign of danger, researched it online afterward, and made a list based on that.

Then written a science-heavy piece of fiction that makes the NY Times bestseller list.

if someone really wanted to take out the authors, they'd use a JDAM or a JSOW from an F-35 JSF or F-15E Strike Eagle...

hell, even a Hellfire from an AH-64D Longbow Apache...

I'd think an anthology with a more unified theme or focus would be preferable. Something like The Lives of Dax or Tales of the Captain's Table.

Like an anthology revolving around the original 1701 from construction to destruction. Little snapshots of the ship over the course of its life.

A big  to Sxottlan for trying to drag this thread back on topic after I helped derail it. And with a great idea too. That could make for an interesting group of stories.

We are getting Shards and Shadows , the MU anthology next year. I don't know if that's exactly what you're talking about, but it seems pretty close to me.

But that wouldn't be fun!

Plus, 'Longbow Apache' were the only words I understood...

you don't understand 'author', 'even', 'or', 'a' or 'eagle'? :p

okay... okay... you got me! But really, I had no clue about the various letter codes!

My apologies then for immediately knocking it back.

A series of stories through the life time of the 1701 would be very enjoyable- I like the opportunity to see the different details of history that wouldn't necessarily be covered by full novels.

F-35 JSF = Lockheed Martin's new Joint Strike Fighter, a semi-stealth strike jet that will replace the Harrier in the RAF and Royal Navy and the US Marines.

F-15E Strike Eagle = Boeing strike version of the venerable F-15 Eagle interceptor

JSOW = Joint Stand Off Weapon. flashy precision-guided bomb.

JDAM = Joint Direct Attack Munition. likewise

Hellfire = anti-tank missile.

AH-64D Longbow Apache. US Army's flashy attack helicopter. characterised by the rotor mast-mounted 'longbow' radar that the original 'A' model lacked. The radar enables the helo to hover behind cover - such as trees, buildings or hills - and 'look' over them to target the enemy.

Wow, so are you involved with aeronautics or are you just a military buff?

i'm a military buff. have been since seeing Top Gun and reading GI Joe as a kid.

funny thing, i now *hate* Top Gun because it's so ludicrous. no F-14 pilot would ever get into gun-fighting range. they use Phoenix missiles which have a 60-mile range. they'd never even see the enemy. if they need to get closer, they've then got the Sparrow (20-odd mile range) and the Sidewinder with a ~5-mile range...
