'The Toxic Avenger' remake is in development for a 2013 release.

imdb listing
The Toxic Avenger (2013)
in-development. no info yet.

and the original The Toxic Avenger (1984) imdb listing and storyline:
This is the story of Melvin, the Tromaville Health Club mop boy, who inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous and vain health club members, to the point of accidentally ending up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results then have a transmogrification effect, his alter ego is released, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the saviour of corruption, thuggish bullies and indifference.
this 2013 remake will reinvent this series but not before next year's 5th film in the franchise
Toxic Twins: The Toxic Avenger V (2011)
is released.

This is just cashing in on the remakes of Halloween and Friday the Thirteenth.

The AV Club had a brief notice about this here.

It's hard to disagree with their analysis. The original THE TOXIC AVENGER might not be a classic of cinema, but to imagine remaking it as a PG-13 action comedy is hilarious in how little of the original will be preserved. It reminds me of that bizarre kid's cartoon that was made out of the property in the 1990s.

I'm not sure what I should think of this. After all Toxic was part of my childhood, mostly because of the Toxic Crusaders toys, but still the movies were a lot silly fun for us, even though forbidded so to speak. If treaded properly, it might work. After all this is the pretty basic story of a loser becoming the hero.

Well let's hope the remake has a Hard R rating, like the original. Brought to us by the guy who brought us Hot Tub Time Machine, I don't see how it can't be. Hopefully they don't generic-ize this though.

So Toxie will be recast as "a green superhero for these environmentally conscious times"? I guess they're remaking the Toxic Crusaders cartoon!

I think secretly Lloyd Kaufman actually relishes the thought of Hollywood validation and that having a big budget Toxie film actually outweighs any reservations over it being watered down.

Of course, I think most of it who grew up with it would rather see a healthy dose of trash in it but this generaton doesn't really do that so well, just look at how dull most of those Asylum movies are.

The good thing about remakes is that they often spawn shiny new remastered rereleases of the original.

Personally, I think that the remake of The Toxic Avenger should be based on the musical! http://www.amazon.com/Toxic-Avenger...=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1289262230&sr=1-1 I can just picture the big screen version in my head, with an all-star cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Meryl Streep, Jane Seymour, Eddie Murphy, Keenan Thompson, & Jimmy Fallon. (I'm not sure who should play Sarah though. I have Eliza Dushku in my head but I don't know if she can sing.)

This is really bad idea.........you can't possibly improve upon the original in this case so why try? (I know, Hollywood wants to milk the cow)

I'll certainly be avoiding this movie unless by some miracle they handle it right and I don't see how that's possible in the current environment.

Let me guess... he'll be nerdy looking young guy with glasses but the toxic waste turns him into Zac Efron.

It wouldn't surprise me if Troma were to receive more revenue from the license fees for Hollywood to make a Toxic Avenger movie than it would receive from making and releasing their own.
