The TNG movie re-releases have roman numerals on the cover.

I never saw it personally, but I read stories about there actually being fringe Trekkies who got their panties in a bunch over the roman numeral numbering sequence being eliminated for the TNG movies. But considering some of the minutia people freaked out over the new Trek movie on this board, I'm inclined to believe this actually happened.

Anyway, for the re-release of the TNG movies, the roman numerals are on the cover. Maybe it's to match the covers of the TOS movie re-releases. Or more likely it's for the same reason we got titles like X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The First Avenger: Captain America.

Also, apparently the numerical sequence is different for DVD than it is for Blu-ray. :p

Strange how they used "fleshy-face" Data for the cover. What's "Star Trek: Evolutions"? Some secret fifth TNG movie that Paramount was to afraid to show the public after the failure of "Star Trek: Nemesis"? I could tell it was Ebert's quote on the cover without even reading the fine print. It's a little disappointing that they used such a generic quote from what was a very eloquent review that had many more interesting sentences in it than that one.

Hold on, the Blue-Ray as STFC as 8 and the DVD has it as 7:

1) TMP
2) TWOK
3) TSFS
4) TVH
5) TFF
6) TUC
7) GEN
8) FC
9) INS
10) Nem

So is the DVD release skipping GEN in the number scheme?

It looks like they just cropped the blu-ray cover for the DVD cover in this image, accidentally cutting off a "I."

Even with the bulky double disc box and the theatrical poster imagery almost being swallowed by the silver frame (which was used for all the movies to give them a unified look, packaging-wise) around it, I still think the old DVD release had better, less generic-looking cover art.

I'm curious as to what Star Trek Evolutions is...probably a bonus disc with featurettes about how the Next Generation movies evolved or some such.

Agreed. I don't like the new covers at all.

Are we getting any deleted scenes for First Contact this time round...?

NO

Paramount refuses to give any deleted scenes for the movies it percieves as 'popular'.

2, 4, 6 & 8----------which by coincidence are the exact 4 movies they are selling separately from the box sets.

the deleted scenes from these movies will be held back until they figure they will be a 'deal-maker' for some future release.

"Now on it's 27th release spanning 7 formats---20 minutes of deleted/extended scenes from TWOK !!"-----circa 2012 or 2017

But honey, I'm only a man, HE'S Popo Bawa!!!"

I always liked the removal of the Roman numerals from the TNG movies, as it means I can omit certain ones from my collection without having it look weird on my shelf. :p

"Star Trek: Evolutions" actually could have been a pretty decent name for a TNG movie. Certainly looks natural next to those other ones on the box. I agonized over a possible title for a fifth TNG movie as I fantasized about another one after "Nemesis" sending off that crew right, and I never thought of that one, but I think it might have worked. Could have been all about the crew 'evolving' towards a new period in their lives, perhaps?

So does this mean that the TNG movies have been officially renamed? Or does this just apply to the cover art? It's kinda weird to have a retroactive change. Although Enterprise s. 1 and 2 were renamed Star Trek: Enterprise right?

Feh. Warsies have been getting in hissy fits over the 'Star Wars/ Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope' thing for years. Now Trekkies can get a slice of that action! LOL

Except it was just one movie that was renamed there.

Here we have
Star Trek: Generations --> Star Trek VII: Generations
Star Trek: First Contact --> Star Trek VIII: First Contact
Star Trek: Insurrection --> Star Trek IX: Insurrection
Star Trek: Nemesis --> Star Trek X: Nemesis

4 movies being renamed at the same time!

It'll just be a cover thing. Sort of like how the cover says Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, but the actual title in the credits at the bottom of the back box cover and the title card that comes on during the movie still say Raiders of the Lost Ark.
