The title of this year's Christmas Special is....

RTD himself revealed it last week in extracts from his book.

I was going to say that there's nobody out there stupid enough to belive the title will turn out to be any more literal than 'The Doctor's Daughter' did but then I realised that there probably people that stupid out there!

^ Now, now, it could happen. Okay, probably not. But you never know.

As for 'The Doctor's Daughter', the title was kept under wraps for awhile because it was literal. The episode introduced a character who is basically the doctor's biological daughter. The doc just happens to be both the mother and father. :D

But back to the x-mas special ~ mods ~ if the episode title has already been discussed to death, feel free to shut this thread down. I'll locate the original thread.

The Wikipedia entry goes into greater detail on this title. Very spoilerish... if true.

Pre-broadcast publicity, based on excerpts from Davies's forthcoming book Doctor Who: The Writer's Tale, hinted at an alternate Doctor played by David Morissey with the Tenth Doctor acting as his companion. In further excerpts, Davies commented, "The best title for this episode would be The Two Doctors... but maybe not. The New Doctor, perhaps? Or The Next Doctor? I quite like The Next Doctor."[17] The book also contained two pictures from a scene cut from the end of the previous episode, intended to segue into the special echoing the previous two series.[18]. This scene will be included on the series 4 boxset when released (November 17, 2008 in the UK).

Hmmm...I'm not sure if I like that title or not. I'll wait () until I see the episode until I judge. :p

Mmh, so this means that
David Morrissey is indeed the 11th Doctor?

Yes, I saw that, StCoop.

I don't think we'll see a regeneration. Actually, I'm not even sure we'll see 10 regenerate into 11 at all, after having established that he'll be much older before he meets his wife. Still, if they introduce Morrissey as the 11th Doctor, it means that he'll probably be in Season 5 already because you can't keep an actor on hold for too long.

...is that the story is loosely based on "The One Doctor," an audio in which the sixth Doctor meets a man -- Banto Zane -- who's pretending to be the Doctor. Who completely cocks things up and then the Doctor has to come to his rescue.

So, I'm not expecting Morrissey to actually be the Doctor. Just a pretend Doctor. Fortunately, he's alive too early to run afoul of Torchwood, who probably wouldn't find his "act" funny.

The pics from that scene are available at Blogtor Who.

(Edit, the above link contained a spoilery title, so you'll need to scroll down to the Sept. 22 entry. Also, you'll find a picture of Morrissey in the article above it. His outfit does have that certain "you know who" feel to it, I must admit...which prolly means it ain't so.
At a guess, the explanation will prolly be:
Closing the Medusa Cascade brings some Cybermen from the Void into the TARDIS.

I've heard this idea before. I like it. Although, I kinda think that it would be a perfect way to bring Tom Baker onto the new series.

The relative Doctor, the other Doctor, Her Doctor, The real Doctor, The sideways Doctor, Another Doctor, My Doctor, That Doctor, the what if Doctor and possibly the most abbrassive alternate title "The Timey Whimey Doctor"

Aw. And just today I thought of and began hoping there'd be a twist that
the Other Doctor would be implied to be a future regeneration, but would actually turn out to be a young First Doctor at the end. Sure, the appearance might be a bit off, but this is TV land! No one ever looks like their relatives or younger/older selves.

David, that would be a great twist.

Guy Gardner, I approve of your last title and wish it were the real one.

Okay, that would be interesting, certainly. I'm liking that idea the more and more I think about it.

I like that idea if for no other reason than because it would piss Jim Steele off to no end.

On my iPhone I have an application called TV Forecast which tells you when your favourite TV shows are airing next with a brief synopsis. It's listing for the Dr. Who Christmas Special is as follows:

Titled - Ghosts In Machines. The Doctor arrives in Victorian London, it's Christmas, but the snow isn't the only thing descending on the tranquil and jubilant civilization .... familiar silver giants of an alternate reality are amassing in numbers. The Cybermen are on the move again, and the beings who can stop them are The Doctor .... and another Doctor?

Not sure where they get their info from.

My Theory regarding the above spoiler is ...

The other Doctor is The Doctor from the Alternate Universe that the Cybermen come from. He is not necessarily the 11th Doctor (the one after DT) and whoever plays him won't necessarily be our 11th Doctor. Should be fun to see a different take on The Doctor.

Well my own personal hope is that...

Morrissey is merely a Victorian adventurer who used the nom de plume of The Doctor, perhaps because he picked it up from tales of a mysterious Doctor? I hate the idea of seeing the 11th Doctor long before we actually get to see him, and it also implies that he was signed up to be the 11th Doctor long before Moffat took charge.

I will happily stake the contents of my bank account that whoever he actually is playing, DM is not playing a future, past or sidways incarnation of the actual Doctor.

(Actually, given that the company I work for is shortly to be sold off so the owners can bugger off into Tax Exile I'm could do with someone taking that bet!)

When Tennant's replacement is really announced it will be a massive news story (in the UK) and he (or she!) will be unveiled with great pomp.

Well, there have been some very interesting, not to say intriguing, plot speculations in this thread. I personally like David gcg's idea the best. Anyway, I'm really excited now. :)
