The title card scene! (spoilers)

Kpnuts

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Top down shot of the natives drawing the Enterprise, camera fading to an identical and gorgeous beauty shot of the ship at full impulse, then sweeping behind the ship, its giant nacelles shaking and then zooming to warp with the gorgeous trails effect; that spectacular NuTrek theme music booming as the title appears triumphantly.

Holy ****. Perfectly put together

One of my favourite scenes of Star Trek full stop, it gave me goosebumps. After so long the franchise has been almost embarrassed to have the Trek name, to see it splashed across the screen in such a bold and show-offy way was breath-taking.

Anyone else??

Re: The title card scene!

Hell yes! That was a beautifully-realized sequence. The shot of the Enterprise reminded me of the original series, and it was a classic beauty shot that seemed almost lacking in the last film.

Re: The title card scene!

Count me in. I was afraid they could not capture the same lightning twice but they did.

Re: The title card scene!

I agree completely. Fantastic opening sequence. :D

Re: The title card scene!

It was a nice transition and beauty shot.

But . . .
I thought it didn't make sense that the natives would draw the Enterprise like that. Why would they draw a top-down picture of something that they had only seen from below? You would think the drawing would have been an attempt to recreate what they had just seen, and that was not the Enterprise from that angle.

Maybe it was from below. It is a 2D drawing. :ouch:

Re: The title card scene!

I thought it was the best intro to any trek movie to date. Brilliantly done.

Music faded in perfectly.

I just loved it so much. The fade from sand drawing to ship from above and BAM! Warp out.

However, was I the only person expecting their drawing to resemble a vague TOS esque drawing? Too obvious a call back but would've been neat to see it as their representation.

And I loved the new warp contrails.

Over-analysing much???

And anyway, anyone with eyes could deduce the basic shape, which is all it was.

It also follows that old trope about eyewitnesses seeing UFOs. They get the saucer outline, but everything else is a blur. :D

Re: The title card scene!

Phenomenal opening title! It was the 3rd time I got goosebumps in the first 10 minutes, the others being Kirk and McCoy swimming down to the Enterprise and it rising out of the ocean. I'm a sucker for those moments :p

You and me both!

Yes, that opening sequence right up to the title card was brilliantly done! From the Enterprise rising out of the ocean, to seeing it whoosh by over the sky, and then seeing the drawing transition into a shot of the ship in space preparing to go to warp... Beautiful!

Re: The title card scene!

Let's give credit where it's due, I think that sequence is elevated extremely high because of the score. I think Michael Giacchino's main theme for this film and the first one is phenomenal. One of the best themes in any Trek film, possibly tied with Goldsmith's theme from TMP/TFF.

It looked to me like it was from below. I specifically remember the lines of the engineering section extending over the saucer.

Completely agree, Giacchino's NuTrek theme plays a big part in making the sequence so great.

Re: The title card scene!

I expected Kirk to shout, "Start the engines! Start the engines!" ;)

Sincerely,

Bill

It was indeed a drawing from below

Re: The title card scene!

That whole sequence just made me want to get up and cheer by the point the title came up. It made me feel like I was watching an episode of TOS all over again!

Just one of those moments where you go "YEAH!" by the time Enterprise warps out, and probably one of my favorite openings to a Trek movie, close with the 2009 opening.

Re: The title card scene!

What I found charming was that it's what so many of us old fanboys did after we first saw the show.

We tried to draw the ship.

Re: The title card scene!

The casual disregard for their scroll makes me want to know more about what was on the scroll that made them worship it in the first place.
