So we're down to the final eight, TAS fans. Time to eliminate another episode. This week in the TAS episode showdown it's :

The Time Trap vs. The Jihad

PS : Apologies for being a week late putting this one up, but Mrs BB and I welcomed a brand new TOS fan into the world last week, her name is Evelyn. Clearly, watching TOS once a week while my wife was pregnant has rubbed off on her :

"The Jihad." It feels more like an adventure. And I like the look of the Skorr---very cool. "Time Trap" (in comparison) comes off as rather meh.

This is a tough call. Both episodes are entertaining stories with diverse aliens in them. But I'll give the edge to "The Jihad." It is a grander adventure (despite being overly compressed), and it actually makes better use of its aliens rather than just giving them cameos (though at the cost of excluding most of the familiar cast). "The Time Trap" has the advantage of featuring Kor (and introducing Kali), but that's cancelled out by not having John Colicos do the voice. Also, "The Time Trap" gets points off for apparently being a ripoff of a Gold Key Trek comic from a year earlier.

One place where they come out even: Both episodes had the definite article dropped from their titles in the Alan Dean Foster adaptations and The Star Trek Concordance, along with "[The] Slaver Weapon" (and "[The] Practical Joker" in the Concordance only).

I have to go with "The Jihad" even though I actually like "The Time Trap." The Amazon chick trying to hook up with Kirk get's me every time.

What gets me is that she didn't succeed. It shows how much they had to tone things down for Saturday morning.
