In the star wars verse it is clearly established that people can live without midichlorians - most normal, non-force sensitive people live so - aka midichlorians are NOT necessary for life.

If midichlorians are NOT necessary in order to support life, they can be removed from a person's cells without killing said person.
They can also be added to a non-force sensitive person.

And who says you need the entire body of a sentient person in order to have midichlorians? - they can, after all, be found in one's blood.
Take a cell culture full of midichlorians and use it as a force battery for the latest cell phone.

When Lucas introduced midichorians as the force receiver, the force lost all its mysticism, it became fully controllable through the scientific method.
A faux step on Lucas' part, to be sure.

No it isn't. Some people just don't have enough to give them a strong Force sense, but everyone has them.

Interesting idea. Easier said than done, but I'm surprised there hasn't been a story about it yet....

It's worse than that. The movies don't specifically state that a high midichlorian count is hereditary, but it is heavily implied since Force-sensitivity certainly is. Which means that logically you should be able to breed people for a high midichlorian count. Which means that preventing Jedi from having children makes very little sense.

It does when you consider perception and public jealousy. The last thing you want is for the public to see a dynastic caste of Force users as a threat; better for it to be seen as a random calling.

No it isn't. Some people just don't have enough to give them a strong Force sense, but everyone has them.

Even this interpretation changes little.
You can extract midichlorians from a force-sensitive up to a level where's he becomes 'normal' or you can add them to someone's cells making him 'strong in the force'.

They can also be added to a non-force sensitive person.

Considering star wars' tech, it shouldn't be a problem to make it happen.

I prefer the ideea of force batteries or force TVs that can see into the future via midichlorians rich cell cultures, though. Unavoidably, this has a parodic dimension, also - of course, Lucas already chose to renounce myticism for science (and to burn all the bridges behind him); he could just as well go all the way.

Well, just like we can't do real AI today, perhaps interpreting and manipulating the Force connection requires capabilities they haven't figured out how to duplicate mechanically. Of course, this would imply some fundamental difference between droids and living brains.

If there's is such a fundamental difference between biological and technological minds, the star wars productions did a poor job of showing it; the droid minds are sentient, have emotions, are intelligent, etc. And they have been this way for thousands of years. Indeed, a VERY strong case can be made that the republic is a slave state.

More to the point, there's nothing in star wars that supports the notion of AIs/even non-intelligent computers (animals were shown to affect the force) not being able to use the force (provided they could acces it via midichlorians).

If the most powerful Jedi bred with each other you would quickly produce an invincible caste of super charged Force users who would threaten the galaxy (or at the very least, the galaxy would feel threatened by).

I'll take this as a valid reason.

But that's not why they do it, it's the same reason Catholic priests aren't allowed to do it, to keep pure. Attachment leads to the Dark Side.

This, not so much. That may have been the official Jedi line, but considering how well it worked out for them, I'm not inclined to accept it.
