The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat

A voice from my youth, to be sure. I will never forget his coverage of the Munich Olympic tragedy in 1972. As one of McKay's fellow sportscasters said, "If a picture is worth a thousand words, his words were worth a thousand pictures." Dieing at age 86? A good, long well-lived life.

I remember watching him every week on Wide World of Sports, and I'm not usually a sports fan. He made sports, even the unusual ones, understandable and accessible to the casual viewer. His quiet and sincere style drew me in.

RIP, Jim. :(

I always liked him on Wide World of Sports (used to watch it all the time as a kid). He seemed to find a way to make even the dullest sporting event interesting.

RIP
