Spoilers The theme tune and titles. (Academy)

Discovery McDiscoveryFace

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I can't find anywhere on YT that has these yet to link to them.

Except some of the visuals where someone has overlaid FOTH
Declaration - I enjoyed both episodes a lot and will stay with the series.

But the titles: visuals are very beautiful, but derivative of Picard.

However, have I got a bad ear for music, or is there no melody until the very end?

You wouldn't be able to hum it. The end part was bothering me and then I realised it was reminiscent of the arrival at Yorktown in Beyond.

As much as I like the score for the show, the theme tune (if we want to go so far calling it that) is unfortunately rather forgettable. I think something a little more bold and melodic instead of just grand and majestic would have fit the adventurous vibe of the show really well.

However, the visuals of the title sequence are pretty nice. The concept of rebuilding the world, from the smallest to the largest element, fits perfectly. Although I think it goes on for too long and has too many shots of just random cadets roaming the ship interior. Feels like they needed to stretch it to be able to add all the producer credits.

They do say in the credits that there will be a soundtrack release.
That’s good to know! Fingers crossed for a physical release as well. Need that score on my record player!

I'm hearing the theme again, and it will take a while to get use to. There isn't really anything memorable about it and I know after watching the episode I had forgotten it.

It has an AI vibe to it.

Seriously, you can produce this kind of imagery, with this degree of consistency, using tools like Sora or Veo right now. Eliminating detailed images of human beings from the sequence cuts the challenge easily down to size.

The theme/score is similarly generic. You can find the generative equivalents on YouTube presented as hours of "science fiction ambience."

I suppose Russo's work on this piece is somewhat more than that, but I doubt the average listener would notice the difference.

By way of contrast, his use of the folk song during the San Francisco landing is pure human inspiration - no music generator would make that choice without being specifically instructed by a human being.
