The Thaw - The Perfect Halloween Episode?

It's been a while since I've seen Voyager, so I wanted to get back into it where I left off, which was Season 2 and "Innocence". Well, I know that episode is kind of boring and while I might get back to it one of these days, I decided to skip it and go with The Thaw. Watching this episode I was thinking, in previous years around this time I typically watch "Catspaw" because it deals with the Halloween theme (Blantently obvious) and I like Star Trek. Well, this year, I don't know if I will watch "Catspaw" but I did watch this episode, as it was in a sense next on the viewing order and I think it might be the perfect Halloween episode.

I mean think about it. It doesn't come out and say "We're a Halloween Episode" like Catspaw does. It deals with the idea of Fear and what it is (Really liked those psychological episodes of Voyager in the early seasons, such as this as Emanations but that's a different topic) and you had a whole bunch of people in costumes and in a way a never-ending costume party. I mean other than the candy, the parallels right there.

As for the episode itself, it's one of Season 2's oddest episodes, but since I like TNG's Masks, I have to be consistent and say I liked this one too, actually quite a bit. The Clown really is one of the most oddest, but possibly unique characters in the franchise. Also, was this episode a benchmark for Inception before Inception was even an Idea. There were some similarities, but maybe I'm a bit off base on the comparison.

This episode is what if Tuvix was a bastard?

An amalgamation of 5 people whose lives are being stolen to sustain a single parasites unwarranted existence?

I really liked "The Thaw" when I saw it a few days ago on my Voyager watch-though. Oddly, I remember hating it as a kid but I don't recall why.

My only problem with the episode is Kim's super-fast recovery after being 'broken' by Fear, and reduced to screaming and crying out in terror. The minute the Doctor arrives he's perfectly composed again when he should have looked somewhat more the worse for wear. He didn't even look nervous.

"The Thaw" works as a halloween episode, but my personal favourite is Enterprise's "Impulse" - trapped on a ship full of Zombie Vulcans!

I'd say it's one of the best VOY episodes overall - and it's definitely creepy enough to qualify as a great Halloween episode.

great episode...

I always liked the Haunting of Deck twelve for Halloween, although it isn't really scary... I like the whole bit about Neelix telling the borg kids a scary story with the lights out.

What about "The Haunting of Deck 12"????

AZAN: Is it true? Does a ghost live there?
NEELIX: You're really too old to believe in such silly things.
MEZOTI: If it's not a ghost, what is it?
ICHEB: We deserve an explanation.
NEELIX: I don't think that Seven would be too happy if you all started waking up with nightmares.
REBI: Tell us.
AZAN: Please?
NEELIX: All right, gather round but I'm warning you, this is not a tale for the faint of heart.
MEZOTI: We're not faint of heart.
ICHEB: Our cardiopulmonary systems are reinforced.
MEZOTI: So don't leave anything out.

I like "The Thaw" ok for a Halloween episode. But I'd have to say my favorites would be:
"The Haunting of Deck 12"

and non-Voyager:
"Sub Rosa" (Yes, yes, I know.)
"The Assignment". Pah-Wraith-Keiko is scary, man!

OT: Vas, that avatar is the STUFF.

I actually prefer One (zombie crew!) or Scientific Method as my VOY Halloween episodes, although I certainly see the parallels in The Thaw with costumes and candy. :) The Thaw is one of my favorite eps in general!

(I think Scientific Method was actually aired around Halloween originally, on like October 29th or something?)

I also think TNG's Phantasms would be a good Halloween choice!

C'mon folkes. Barge of the dead?

It had actual ghosts in it.

And the crew as zombies?

Coda was Halloweeny too with Janeway dying over and over and over again.

Yeah, this is what I think of when I think Voyager Halloween episode - some creepy stuff.

TNG's "Schisms" used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. I was terrified I'd be abducted by weird clicking aliens in the middle of the night. Little me lost hours of sleep:lol:.

The bit in "Genesis" with SpiderBarclay freaked me out, too.

I laugh now, but back then...brrrr.
