Spoilers The Terror: Infamy - costarring George Takei

JD

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
For it's second season AMC's horror anthology series, The Terror, will be shifting it's focus from Captain Sir John Franklin's 1840s arctic expedition, to a Japanese American internment camp during WWII.
Here's the description on AMC's official show page:
AMC said:
Set during World War II, The Terror:Infamy centers on a series of bizarre deaths that haunt a Japanese-American community and a young man’s journey to understand and combat the malevolent entity responsible.
They haven't updated the cast page on the official site so here's who Wikipedia says is in it, it doesn't specify who is a regular or who is just recurring.
Derek Mio as Chester Nakayama, a son of Japanese immagrants who joins the army
George Takei as Yamato-san, a former fishing boat captain and community elder
Kiki Sukezane as Yuko, a mysterious woman from Chester's past
Shingo Usami as Henry Nakayama, Chester's father
Naoko Mori as Asako Nakayama, Chester's mother
Miki Ishikawa as Amy, a Nakayama family friend.
C. Thomas Howell as retired Major Hallowell Bowen, an official with the War Relocation Authority
George Takie also served as a historical and story consultant.
The first trailer was released today.

I'm hoping this does well and viewers aren't mad it's not about Crozier's life with the Inuit.

Makes sense since he was unfortunately one of many Japanese-Americans forced into internment camps in the 1940s when he was family was moved to one when he was just a child.

Didn't see season one, this sounds interesting.
I didn't either. I watched a bit of the first episode, and I don't know if it was bad sound mixing or my TV, but for some reason I couldn't understand half of the dialouge. I don't usually have a problem with British accents, I've watched a shit load of British TV and don't usually have trouble understanding people.

Is anyone watching?

Me. It's pretty good so far, it's a different type of story but I appreciate how it showed that there was more to this than just "White Americans vs Innocent Japanese" in how the Interned Japanese people are against one another (the first Immigrants suspicious of the Americanized Younger Japanese, the Japanese women against the pregnant non-Japanese woman). The ghost feels almost unnecessary.

Well, in that respect it is like the 1st season, where much of the story is either fact, or reasonable possibility of fact...and the Monster itself is relatively incidental.

ithink that might be the point of the show, in a sense

Damn, I keep forgetting about this when I'm watching stuff on my computer and tablet.

The non-paranormal aspects of the show is compelling enough. The story of the Japanese American community and their internment is interesting in itself.

Just like the first season, the non-paranormal stuff is quite engaging.

You might be right about that.

The show seems to be about fear, superstition, paranoia, and phobia (xenophobia, etc) within people. The paranormal stuff is to a certain degree tangential.

I've been watching but I'm not sure if I'm going to to stick with it. I'm really enjoying all of the non-paranormal aspects of the show, especially as a history lesson that's deeply needed for today, but I don't like the horror and gore (I don't in general). I know that's the conceit of the whole show (I've been meaning to watch the first season but haven't yet) but I think the show would be so much stronger without it.

After the last episode with Luz losing both of her babies was too much and then we got the gore and horror. I don't know if I want to keep up with it at this point. Which is a shame because it's a terrific cast (and not just because of Takei and Naoko Mori).

Enjoying this new season so far. Season 1 was great, and this one is off to a solid start.

I quite enjoyed the scenes of Chester in the island jungle.
