I think it's also worth noting that even setting aside the entire history of narrative literature to which you allude here (which some posters seem inclined to do, insisting it's "totally worth it if you have a good time"), the "rules" implicit in your lists (Devon's term; I think "goals" would be more accurate) are unquestionably found in lots of past Star Trek, the result of diligent creative work by scores of other writers over the course of decades... a body of work to which it is unquestionably perfectly fair to compare this movie, and to which it compares very poorly indeed.
