The start of a new ship. (non-trek)

Venardhi

Vice Admiral

I've been tinkering with getting back to some 3d of late, and modeled a few bits and pieces here and there so as to figure out how not to suck quick as badly as I have in the past, particularly when it comes to more detailed and complicated shapes. I pulled out a sketch of a Firefly-verse ship I did years ago and decided it would be my next big project, hopefully with more success than my last few.

Original concept doodle, named Beauregard:

The engines, still quite rough:

I'd really love to hear some feedback, criticism and suggestions on this, I am blocking out the rest of the ship currently, but having trouble with figuring out the shapes as viewed from any other angle than the top. Starting to look a bit like a flying brick with wings. Alas.

Anyways, thanks for looking.

Nice start, the modeling looks good right now. The round end on the left looks fine, the other end looks a little soft to me for some reason. No doubt once it's in place and textured I wouldn't get that vibe from it.

As for the overall design, very interesting but I can see why you hit a wall. How about this for an idea, remove the large plane beneath the body and just go with a sort of future retro twin boom fighter. It would look like something out of the Chronicles of Riddick, which is no bad thing.

I think the top view is giving you the wrong impression. I'll do up a quick and dirty model to show you more what I had in mind.

Quick and dirty, just like your mother likes it. Still need to figure out how it actually propels itself normally, so far she has no proper thrusters or jets or the like. Scale would make a person a little less than half a grid-square tall. It was to be a salvaged and refit military dropship of some variety. The inside walls of the bottom sections fold down to allow entry/exit to the tunnel formed under the ship when it is landed. The upper area houses the bunk rooms, bridge, kitchen/mess, etc.

very interesting, its kindof reminiscent of a giant sized BR Thunderfighter.

I think it would make a cracking heavy lfter, it looks like the underside is a pod that comes away when released, and the lifter winged section flies off. It's a sci-fi Skycrane.
