The Star Trek magazine

I guess we see it differently then since I see it as promoting, not trolling.
This is afterall the Trek literature section :p
Sorry if I don't post in threads like the Enterprise vs Death Star, Kirk vs Vader, etc to help increase my post count to make you feel better

Paul, is there anyway of getting some detailed info or maybe even an interview with me about this book in time for the next magazine issue?

Since it's possible that Paul is off to SlumberLand for the evening on his side of the pond, I'll just say that I recall him saying somewhere a day or so ago that the next issue is already "locked," so the earliest would likely be the one after that, which wouldn't be in stores until close to the very end of the year.

I may well be mistaken, though.

I think both Xeris and I mean you're participation in this section of the board (Trek Literature). I checked you're posting history and all your posts in Trek Literature before my post yesterday were posts promoting your book.

But for what's it worth I don't think it's trolling, but rather spamming. ;)

Dayton's right on both counts - yes, I was amazingly away from the computer, and yes, the next issue is locked.
However, just to forestall any further requests on this line, we can't cover unofficial, unlicensed books - no matter who they're by. This is one of those "not open to debate" points - you'll note that William Shatner's latest tome doesn't get a review or a cover image in the very Kirk-centric issue currently on sale.

Okay, surely you've pimped the book in enough threads and moved into trolling???

Mods?

It does seem that way doesn't it.

Also, couldn't said question be asked in, I don't know, a private message?

Thanks for all the info on the magazine. I'll be keeping an eye out for future issues at the stores.

In open forum is actually better on something like this, simply because it's asking about policy - and saves me telling the same thing a number of times...!

^ You've been missing out. For, like, over a year....

Yes, the lunatics took over the asylum about issue 5...:rommie:

Seriously, commissioned writers for the next three issues who are also Trek novelists include: KRAD, Terri Osborne, Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore, Dave Mack, David McIntee, James Swallow, Michael Jan Friedman, Bob Greenberger, Jill Sherwin, Robert Jeschonek, Christopher L. Bennett, Michael A. Martin, Kirsten Beyer, with loads of others having contributed in the past, or in discussions to partake in future.

Of course, when the movie hits, there'll be more on that than there is at present - but I am hoping that even then, book fans will find some nice Easter eggs within the issues.

Back issues are of course available... :)

Well, it would be nice if any of the book stores in my city actually still carried this magazine. The first five or six issues were available, but now it's disappeared off the shelves. :(

Agreed. Whats the point of an open forum if everything gets asked off forum in a PM?

And not to sound like I am trying to argue or change your mind since I know it is not open for debate, but just to respond I am surprised and saddened by the reason that the Star Trek Mag can't do anything on unauthorized books like collectibles and price guide books. Unauthorized doesn't always mean an illegal or against CBS/Paramounts wishes kind of thing. It just wasn't required.

If you are buying each and every issue then why not just subscribe to the mag?

Have you tried comic shops? Any of them can get the magazine through Diamond Comics distribution, and many comic shops are willing to order and hold copies for regular customers.

PM me with your location and I'll get our distribution people to look into it. My impression was that more places, not less were carrying it...

The magazine is available in the Borders book stores here in Puerto Rico so that should say something :techman:

Lots of sane and sensible people in Puerto Rico is the first thing that comes to mind.... as long as they're buying it, and it's not just sitting there on the shelves for 2 months!

I was there the other day at the Mayaguez Borders store and picked up the second to last copy of the Star Trek Mag on the shelf. I was there to talk to the store manager as they are setting up with Krause Pub to do a book signing with me at the three Borders stores here on the island. Anyway, she said that the Star Trek stuff sells actually pretty well at her store but she said the much larger Borders store located at the Plaza Las Américas in San Juan is huge and gets a lot more business the one she is at in Mayaguez or even the one in Carolina.
She said the large Borders in San Juan is so big that it has authors from all over the world who fly in and do book tours and signings there. She said there is always some event going on each week at that Borders at the Plaza Las Américas mall.
It will be pretty exciting when I go to do my book event there in about 3 to 4 weeks :)

Enough already, haven't you got anything else to talk about?? Like the ST magazine, stop hijacking the thread!!!

Back on topic: Paul, I'd like to see something on the other merchandise mentioned in the current one, like where to buy and stuff. Have you got that info??

What other merchandise are you talking about? If I know and can say, will do!

Holy warp fields Xeris, chill out already. I was replying to Paul talking about how he hoped the magazine did well here in PR and didn't just sit on the shelves for two months. Just in case you missed it, this board is for all members to discuss things on and not just what Xeris wants or thinks people should discuss.

And to get back on topic, what I find interesting down here in PR is that Star Trek literature and obviously the magazine do very well, especially considering that the majority of the population here in PR is Spanish and the magazine as well as most Trek lit I have seen is only in English.
