The Star Trek Encyclopedia getting first update since 1999!

Very excited about this. I'm relieved to read that the reboot movies will be incorporated --I had this image in my head of the fundamentalists ripping an appendix off their copies

If someone will do that here, please YouTube it :p

Or donate the book to me ;) I'll pay for the shipping.

I'm imagining them going through with a black marker, redacting any mention of the Abramsverse.

I just hope they employ a fact checker this time.
Given that the "battle of Clontarf" entry gives the wrong result of said battle is pretty bad.
Trek lore is one thing but getting real-life,check able facts wrong is rather stupid eh?:p

Thank god for Memory Alpha which is correct! :)

Maybe in the Trek timeline the result was different. Heck, perhaps that was a pivotal divergence from our own timeline. :p

The spelling of the planet in "The Enemy Within" as "Alfa 177" still gets me. How did no one realize that it was supposed to be "Alpha"?

"Alfa" is the spelling in the NATO phonetic alphabet, so it's possible the writer used that instead of the Greek letter.

Unfortunately TOS scripts aren't as easily available as TNG/DS9, so I don't know what they actually wrote. :)

^ I always wondered where that came from... I had no idea the phonetic alphabet spelled it "alfa" rather than "alpha"!

The Greek letter is spelled "alfa" in most European languages other than English and French, which is the reason NATO uses that spelling. Maybe Richard Matheson figured that English-speaking people wouldn't be the only ones traveling in space and naming planets in the future.

That would probably be one of the very few times that TOS didn't go with the U.S.-style conventions, then.

That might also suggest that the Federation respects the intentions and conventions of those who do the discovering, and at least by the 2260s hasn't standardized such things. Perhaps it indicates that Alfa 117 was charted by a civilian organization, since Starfleet uses "Alpha"?

It's "Alfa 177" in the shooting script, which I am looking at right now.

The Amazon listing has been updated to include a pic of the set:

Lookin' good!

I don't know if this was asked before, but does anyone know if there will be an ebook or iBook release for this?
