The Spore Drive Technology. What Do You Think About It?

Why is the fungus visible to the naked eye in the ship interiors if the stuff lives in subspace?

Voyager Equinox also used biological "lifeforms" to enhance warp speed, okay we know that this spore-drive will not work at the end but as a storypoint .... great, i love it.

Reminds me of space mead--the Liao drug
https://lovecraftianscience.wordpress.com/tag/space-mead/

There an orgsan called a hune can produce a space time pattern called keim.

Now Fungus may have a stable element high on the periodic table that might allow..something. Drink with scalosian water--however that works.

That's not how standalone stories work, it is how serialized one's do.
Thats why I hated MASH. Whats the point, we know how the war ended!

Wild guess 1: Cuddles turns out to be a semi sentient species, somewhere around a chimp on the IQ scale. (He’s got a map of the whole galaxy memorized, can’t be that dumb!) Burnham develops a conscience and takes a stand against Lorca.

I've been pondering something similar - a mutiny to ruin her career, another to save it?

Though loving that they've turned the spore drive into a moral confict so early on. Still don'd understand the science about it all - but looks like I'm not alone, and thankfully people smarter than we are do get it! :p

Science does not exist via the show's explanation. If anyone can find any peer reviewed journal article, please post a link.

I think the whole story-line is meaningless since we already know how it will end.
But what it allows the series to explore could be interesting. Since the ship can go anywhere they can meet the Borg and Dominion in one episode.

I am really not liking this fungus spore tech. The monologue from "biologist/physicist" in the transporter 2 episodes back was really awful. Some of the WORST Treknobabble ever. I get that at some level biology is physics, but this was just plain bad:

"At the quantum level, there is no difference between biology and physics. No difference at all. And you talk about spores. What are they? They are the progenitors of panspermia. They are the building blocks of energy across the universe. Physics and biology? No; physics as biology." http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Paul_Stamets

Also hated that they put the tardigrade thing as the "pilot." Great, we have a giant bug high on blue magic fungus dust piloting Discovery!

Honestly, the things keeping me watching are Sonnequa's character (digging the "mutineer" stuff and the guilt she feels for actions that led to 8,000 accidental fatalities and the human trying to be less Vulcan thing---very complex) and the effects. The show's story writers are the worst. Hope this improves.

My only real complaint about it is that it seems obvious to me we're heading towards a predictable "reason why we stick to warp drive" season ending.

It got silly when someone..Burnham (?) talked about mushroom compatibility and.. give me strength. Then Stamets lying there after affecting a jump. I'm worried that next time Stamets looks in the mirror he's going to have a couple of toadstools sprouting from his ears.

He's going to mutate into a salamander - The whole 'Shroom drive is a retelling of "Threshold."

I heard these Ensigns will be the tardigrade's "handlers" in Season 2. They will keep him fed, bathed, synced up with the nav system, and offer him a little bit of green as a "treat" when he manages not to gore/mutilate a crewmember for 24 hours

Stamets was spouting some nonsense technobabble to disguise how ridiculous and unscientific the concept is.
(Stamets and the shows writers have apparently never heard about Planck scale)

The reality is, that they might as well have the navigator do bong hits of sub space herb, and use that explanation for how the Discovery travels. They could call it the Bong-Drive.
