The Sky's the Limit

I actually have *all* the rest of them on Kindle, including all the Strange New Worlds, and they're all 100% complete. Just an error with that one, apparently, which is annoying.

Thankfully, I do have Distant Shores in print.

so distant shores is the only one with the fuck up , I will shell out another $ 20 for a physical copy . I love anthologies just as well as full length novels .

slowly rebuilding my library .

ps how is the kindle compared to the nook ?

^ Really, about the same. There are minor differences, and I prefer Kindle to Nook as a result, but nothing really major.

This was *definitely* the best of the anniversary anthologies. Almost no misses. Four Lights could've been better, and Turncoats was pretty lame, but all the rest landed.

I was really surprised at the final entry, actually; I thought the first story was a bit of a non sequitor, but then the last one made that tiny little tale into something huge and surprisingly powerful.

This anthology took a lot of chances that the others didn't, and I felt really nailed all of them; non-linear storytelling, strange new forms of life, major character turns (Friends With The Sparrows)...all kinds of good stuff.

Not usually a fan of the anthologies, as I like my stories long and epic, but this worked for me. Nice job all around.

I love anthologies from star trek to buffy to star wars . Some of the best stories came out of anthologies . Look at twilight zone great anthologies show . Will there be any more anthologies coming out for star trek other than the vangaurd one ?
bring back new worlds love fan fictions .

That's the only one on the schedule, but I doubt very much it will be the last. The publishers have been doing Trek anthologies for 35 years and I see no reason why they would stop now.

Hmm? I guess you're referring to Star Trek: The New Voyages from Bantam, but the fact is, for Pocket, Trek anthologies are a relatively recent phenomenon, beginning only in 1998 with the first Strange New Worlds. The first non-contest Trek anthology was The Lives of Dax in 1999. So it's more like 12-13 years than 35.

My favorite is Constellations, personally, but they're all pretty neat.

Wow, thanks! Glad you liked it.

Yeah, I'll admit I just looked for the earliers anthology I could find on Memory Beta, and that was TNV #1. I didn't realize anthologies were that recent of a thing for Pocket.

why was'nt the crew of the exclaibur involved in destiny or typhon ? are they no longer part of the relaunch continurty ?

There was a brief reference to the Exal. in one of the Destiny books, but that is all there ever is in something that PAD doesn't write (other than the one anthology). And PAD doesn't ever acknowledge the events from books outside of his bibliography.

thanks for that and love the avatar ^. are we getting any more sce any time soon ? as soon as I get caught up on tng I was heading there starting with have tech will travel.

The SCE (or Corps of Engineers, as it's been known since '06) series was put on hiatus ( I don't think it was actually officialy stopped) following the release of Rememberance of Things Past in September 2007. According to KRAD the earliest possible point that that could change would be after the last paperback collection is released, but nothing has been announced about when that could happen yet.
As for the avatar, I'm really looking forward Camelot. I love Arthurian stories, and this looks like a really good one.

I love arthurian legends as well . Looking forward to camelot on starz + merlin tonight .

any ways been reading tng relaunch up to Q & A so is seven of nine a perment member of the crew . and I don't see why so many people hated resistance .I liked it kinda reminded me of encounter at farpoint as a new crew starting over or at the beging .

Just don't get used to some of those new crewmembers. Especially those who have the same name but are completely different. :vulcan:

And no, Seven is not a permanent member of the Enterprise-E crew.

No, Seven isn't an Ent. crew member, but she does go on to become a regular on another series after Destiny.

finished resistance today I liked it was a good book . for a borg type story it had it's momments like the return of the queen and worf comming to terms with jadzia passing on . but it was'nt the same as endgame from voyager or first contact .
which are my two favorite borg in counters . also , diw is a little better in the action
department .

now I am on Q&A about 50 pgs in love it so far .

That reminds me of something I forgot to mention in the appropriate thread at the appropriate time, there was a reference to an event in "Treason" in "Paths of Disharmony," which I appreciated because I'd been fuzzy on where exactly New Frontier was in relation to the chronology after the time-jump.

(IIRC, "Treason" took place about a year prior to "Destiny.")
