The six best Star Trek starship swan songs

With the likes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine taking out starships by the dozen, there’s no shortage of great starships biting the dust in Star Trek. But here’s what I think are the most memorable six… USS Enterprise 1701 in Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock It had been 18 years since Star [...]

Well, there's a thread idea I haven't seen before! ;) Honorable mention should go to the Voyager episode where the ship crashed into the icy planet. (I don't remember the name.)

A good list, though I'd have left out Cause and Effect and Year of Hell.

Other starship destructions I'd add:

-Voyager from Timeless.
-USS Valiant from Valiant.
-USS Kelvin from Trek XI.

Well my vote for worst goes to GEN and the destruction of the Ent-D.

As for some of the better ones

Enterprise in TSFS
Constellation in "The Doomsday Machine"

Ent-D in "cause and effect" even if it didn't last
Ent-D in "generations"
Enterprise in "TSFS"

I don't think Borg Cubes count as starships, but pretty much every time one goes, whether it's "BOBW" or "First Contact" it's pretty neat.

Lets not forget the untimely demise of the Yamato. Exploding unexpectedly mid conversation, and the Enterprise was next...

Its a shame we never got to see the final stand of the Enterprise-C. You just know that was going to be one helluva battle.

The Yamato's destruction was very well done for a 1980s television budget. Hell, it still looks cool compared to what can be done today.

Curbstomp more likely.

I don't know, I have a feeling a battle between the Enterprise and the Romulan ships must have been epic if it was what helped convince the Klingons to ally with the Federation. Have a feeling that just the token appearance of the Enterprise wouldn't be enough to convince the Klingons otherwise.

I'd also like to add the destruction of the Phoenix, quite a mournful destruction.

You have a sneek attack by your so called ally on one of your colonies. A Lone Federation starship responds to the distress call and engages 4 warbirds in combat. Eventually giving their lifes.

From a Klingon mindset the Romulans have acted dishonourably. Whilst the Federation acted in an honourable manner laying down their lives to defend a Klingon outpost. The actual battle itself is largely irrelevant, it is the actions of the Romulans and Federation that matter, given the importance Klingon culture places on honour. It also seems as if there had been a cooling of Federation-Klingon relations by the time the Battle Of Narendra III occured.

I agree. The Enterprise-C didn't need to look especially good during the fight, though many a fan has wanked that the E-C took out at least one possibly two of the Warbirds during the skirmish. All she needed be defeated heroically while being out-manned and out-gunned, with the Klingons watching. Although, why the Klingons never told the Federation of the fate of the Enterprise-C is a mystery.
