The Sims 4

By the way, I've heard about the nudity glitch in TS4, which is an anti-piracy feature conceived by EA Games to punish those who download illegal copies of the game. So if you ran a pirated copy of TS4 and tried to use the nude patch (which normally gets rid of the pixels for nude sims), your sims would continue to be blurred even after using the toilet or taking a shower. Eventually, the pixels would cover up your whole screen. Way to go, Maxis!

Now I'm assuming that if you own a legitimate copy of TS4, the nude patch should work. Which begs the question: where do I download the patch? :shifty:

That is a pretty novel way of fighting piracy, I admit!

What I love most about anti-piracy methods like this is seeing all those affected running to the support forums to get help. And then reading the replies.

I've been playing the game more often lately, and although it doesn't have very much content yet, I actually like it. I've been creating more sims and households, and the Create-a-Sim is really dynamic. TS4 combines the best features of TS2 (Skills, Aspirations, but no Influence yet) and TS3 (somewhat open world).

I've never really grown accustomed to Story Progression, which automatically ages other sims in the neighborhood when I'm not playing them. I like that there is a way to disable this in the current game by checking Automatic Aging to "Current Household Only."

Although I've found a way to deactivate Story Progression or automatic aging, the game appears to progress by itself. I let two of my sims "try for a baby" and then exited the game to play another household. When I got back to the couple, they were no longer young adults, but full blown adults. They also had fraternal twin infants although the wife didn't get pregnant. :wtf: Also, I would've liked to name the newborns myself instead of having system-generated names. What I do like is the fact that when both parents go to work, the baby automatically gets sent to "daycare." Before, you had a hire a nanny.

What really made me laugh out loud is when I discovered that teenaged sims can now "mess around."

I played 2 for awhile back in the day, and used to enjoy just building complex houses, community centers, public pools, etc. Wasn't too thrilled with the actual gameplay though. I spent hours of game time keeping my Sims fed, clean, and rested that there was barely any time to do anything social. Hopefully they've tweaked this in later versions.

I played the hell out of 2, but 3 left me sort of ambivalent. Open world is great and everything, but it seemed like there was nothing worthwhile in that open world. So far everything I've heard about 4 sounds like more of the same.

I pretty much feel like this - I played Sims 2 a lot and I loved it, the transition from the original was huge, and it had a lovely quirkiness to it that was fun. I got Sims 3 but found I had little patience for it - it seemed the things I liked about Sims 2 were gone and replaced by things I didn't care about or want like story progression mode. I'm still on the fence about buying 4.

^ I would just wait for more contents to be added or new game dynamics incorporated in future expansion packs. Right now the most fun for me is the Create-a-Sim feature, which gives me a lot of freedom to mold my characters' looks and tweak the tiniest details. The personality traits available are quite limited, perhaps even fewer than the ones available in TS3.

And why on earth did the game developers decide to do unlockable items in Buy Mode? What has always been fun about this franchise is that you can build homes and furnish them any way you wish with unlimited funds (using various cheats like Motherlode, etc.). With TS4, some items are not immediately available until your sims reach a certain skill level.

One of the long running criticisms of the series in some quarters has been that while creating and building is fun it doesn't have a lot of playability once your Sims settle into a routine and you're happy with their house. I suppose things like unlockable items are designed to give you new goals to aim at. Personally I'd rather have access to the full catalogue as like you that's what I found fun (never bothered with the money aspect of the Sims, been cheating since day one!)

I'm not sure about 4, but in 3 your sims earned experience points that you could use to unlock special abilities, such as having to eat or bathe less often. I thought that was a decent way of handling it.

I hope they bring back Aspiration. I remember it so well from playing TS2, and my sims achieved either gold or platinum level when their wishes, based on their actions and personalities, were fulfilled. It gave the sims more things to strive for, in addition to the mundane stuff like using the toilet or cleaning the kitchen.

I also liked the Skills categories in TS2, which were a lot more basic: Charisma, Fitness, Cooking, Logic. If you practiced speech in front of a mirror, you'd gain a Charisma point. If your sim played chess, he/she gained a Logic point. In TS3 and TS4, the skills are so varied and specific; there's a category for virtually everything - video gaming, guitar, comedy, charisma, and so forth.

Seems to me it should have been pools first, so that you can drown your sims to get the ghosts.

I downloaded* the game on 2 days ago and am quite enjoying it. I really love that the sims can do multiple things at once. I do think it looks prettier and am liking the new emotions. Haven't tried building anything yet, but what I have played when decorating the house (and basic renovations) doesn't cause me any concern. Moving back to a less open world also suits me. The quick load time, no lagging and no crashes is wonderful. I am missing the options to customise clothing in create a sim, but other than that find that feature easier to work with. The new method of changing a sims physical features is much easier.

Where the Sims 3 really started to annoy me was 2 things - the darn "be a star" thing that I think came with the nightlife extension. Everyone had to be famous - absolutely hated it. Nor was I a big fan of how open the world became compared to previous sims. Overall I never really enjoyed sims 3 all that much more than sims 2. It bored me, though I kept trying because I expected to like it.

Pools never interested me so I'm not bothered by those. I don't think there are any spas yet though, and I always give my sims a spa so I will buy the extension that comes with one. Nor have my sims had a family yet. The toddler stage always annoyed me in sims 3 however so I wouldn't mind too much if they don't bring it back.

The one issue I am having is that my camera won't follow my selected sim around. I've followed instructions on that one, but it just won't do it. It's driving me crazy.

*edit for clarity: I downloaded from origin after purchasing a key for the deluxe edition. Got a good price compared to what it's selling for on the shelves here.

I do find the complaints about lacking content a little odd. The Sims is built on expansion packs. We've had 5 years of expansions with Sims 3. That's where we got a lot of the content, not the base game. We just don't remember 5 years ago nearly as well as we think we do. Given time, that content will come back. Not all of it, but we'll also get new content like we haven't seen before.
