The Shuttle Body Count

Mr Light

Admiral
Admiral
I was channel flipping the other day and came across my first VOY ep since the series ended, "Unimatrix Zero". At the end of the first part the Delta Flyer was blasted to smithereens, jogging my memory of their comical penchant for destroying things they have a limited stock of.

I'm sure someone has a website or list around somewhere... just how many shuttles got destroyed over the course of this tv show?

Google told me whoever was counting stopped sometime around late season 5 or early 6, and that the tally got to between 13 and 15 completely destroyed/abandoned/given away shuttles.

Anybody know how many they had on board originally?

I've read somewhere that they had two shuttles from the beginning.

I think that the first original shuttle was destroyed in the book "Ragnarok" and the second original shuttle in the book "The Final Fury". The first shuttle we did see getting destroyed was in the season 2 episode "Initiations".

But never mind, the Shuttle Building Team built new shuttles as soon as they were destroyed. A good job by Carey, Dalby, Henley, Chell, Gerron and he other members of the Team! :techman:

that doesn't count, books are not canon

I count the books!

And since it wasn't stated in which episode the original shuttles were destroyed I assume that the original shuttles may have been destroyed in the events which took place in the books "Ragnarok" and "The Final Fury".

"Canon" is a guideline which sets up the parameters for the series, not the written law.

it's still not canon ;)

So what? It isn't the law! And I still count the events in the books as parts of the Voyager story.

Well if we have to be that rigid, we didn't actually see anyone build any shuttles either so maybe the "hen theory" written in anais's post above is the truth.

It is at least funny! ;)

in this case canon is kind of the law, yes. You can count the shuttles that were destroyed in the episodes but not the books

^ Oh come on, people! Why can't one accept the books as canon while others don't? I think that's perfectly okay.

because books aren't canon ;) it's not a matter of accepting it or not, it's just the way it is. Canon has always been what was only seen in live action series and movies. You can't realy change that

Books may not be canon.

But canon isn't the law. Canon is a guideline.

As long as it isn't clearly stated that the shuttle which was destroyed in "Initiations" was the first original shuttle to be destroyed, there is a possibility that the two original shuttles may have been destroyed somewhere else. Such a theory does not contradict canon in any way.

If it had been clearly stated that the shuttle destroyed in "Initiations" was the first original shuttle which was destroyed, then it would have been different.
