Judging by the smirk on Ben's face, he obviously manipulated Sayid into doing that, presumably by lying about Nadia's death.

That's the part I always look forward to. Although, I think things are starting to make sense now, in a way.

The beach scenes were important in that the doctor washed up dead on the beach, but when Daniel was communicating with the boat they said he was fine (meaning still alive).
Yeah, I was expecting more info on why Ray washed ashore and what's bugging Jack, but I guess they are saving that more for next episode. Also, remember when Jack calls Bernard over right before the scene change? Something is up with that. I'm interested to find out what, other than the fact that it might have something to do with the Morse code.
