The Secret Circle(The CW) *Spoilers*

The pilot was not great, but that's fine, the pilot for The Vampire Diaries wasn't great either and it became one of my favourite shows.

I haven't read the books, but is it possible that Diana is the real bad girl and not Faye? At first I thought Faye would be the Fairuza Balk character from the craft, but I believed her that setting Cassie's entire car on fire was an accident, just like Adam only intended to make one drop of water flow, they both didn't realize how much Cassie's presence would boost their powers. Even a little bit of fire or smoke is a stupid idea, but it's not necessarily evil, she's just a stupid teenager who wants to have fun with her powers. She seemed to be genuinely concerned when she hurt Diana and couldn't stop the storm she started. If Faye createds trouble it's not out of malice.
Diana seemed to be more calculating and obviously expects the other members of the circle to follow her lead, she was pissed when Faye pretty much told her "Fuck you, you're not my boss!". I could see her turning on the other members if they decide to not fall in line and oppose her.

I think the previous generation accidentally killed their spouses. Faye, Adam, Diana and Cassie (until recently) only seem to have one parent each and that's the witch parent, I don't think that's a coincidence and I wouldn't be surprised if the other two have a dead parent too.

BTW, isn't Ashley Crow a little bit too young to play the grandmother? She looks like she's in her early fifties at most, how old where she and her daughter when they got pregnant? Were they both teenagers?

Painful.

Derivative and painfullier.

Point Pleasant had a better pilot.

While I thought The Secret Circle pilot was nothing special, I found it decent enough that I'll watch another few episodes at least. I did watch all of Point Pleasant but just stepped in to say "Point Pleasant had a better pilot" is a pretty good insult.

Actually so is "Point Pleasant had a better (anything)."

I think there was a line in the pilot where someone told Cassie that everyone in the circle lost a parent.

Happy Town.

Happy town had a worse pilot, which is amazing considering the cast it brought to the table.

In theory I would watch a show about Amy Acker in overalls painting houses where nothing unusual or dramatic ever happens.

I haven't seen it yet. Been unusually busy. Will probably catch it the umpteen times Much Music will air it lol.

I normally don't go for fantasy or CW shows, but for some strange reason I decided to give this one a shot. The pilot was not bad, but not good enough for me to set a series recording for it yet. The whole thing felt very rushed, and the dialogue was a little silly at times. You would think a girl who just lost her mom a month ago and moved to a new town would be a little more reserved and quiet, not already acting like Diana is her best friend and almost kissing some guy after being there for only a couple of days. I think the first episode should have focused more on being introduced to the town in a more normal way, not meeting some drunk in a bar and immediately talking about how he was in love with your mom. Weird!

But, I will watch the second episode to see if it improves.

I'd chalk up the "almost kissing" to the interaction of the magic between those two and its unexpected effects. Like, they were drawn toward each other and this is reinforced by other people's beliefs that their families are destined to connect. It's not just like they saw each other and started making out.

I liked the pilot much better than the vampire diaries pilot but I love that show now as well. I am looking forward to this series. thursday's are awesome now.

Yeah, the kissing wasn't really that bad, at least it had an explanation behind it. But the character interactions in general, throughout the entire episode, just felt so rushed. It was interactions I'd expect from someone who had gotten settled and been living in this new place for at least a month or two, not a couple of days.

Yeah, they seemed to be in way too big a hurry to explain who everyone was, to the extent that everybody in town seemed to be falling over themselves to unload their backstories on poor Cassie.

"Hi, you don't know me, but I was secretly in love with your dead mother and am now a troubled alcoholic. And did I mention that I'm the father of that cute boy you just met, the one who is inconveniently dating that super-friendly girl you just met . . . . "

The whole town seemed to be overdosing on TMI. Hopefully, the dialogue will calm down now that they got all that exposition out of the way . . . .

The Secret Circle pilot was pretty mediocre. Of course so was The Vampire Diaries pilot and that became awesome in later episodes...

I guess I'll see where it goes next for a while longer.

I also think the plot is definately moving too fast. In TVD it took the main character 4 or 5 episodes until she learned about the existence of Vampires. TSC writers are moving so fast that they won't have anything to use later in the season.

I finally watched it. Went back and forth whether to stick with it, but I netted out that I will, for now, chiefly because the adults' mystery is intriguing. A bunch of kids messing around with witch powers in the woods seems too low-stakes to be immediately gripping.

As far as the characters go, there's no one with the charm of the Salvatore brothers, but on the up side, Cassie is far less annoying as a protagonist than Elena. And there's more that you can do with witches vs. vampires, who really limit the places a plotline is likely to go, and also get pretty tiresome with their eternal angst.

New Fall Season: 1/3 (for now).

Next up: Playboy Club.

I haven't seen the season premier of a CW Fantasy show draw this little excitement in a long, long time.

It might just be me, but I saw very little advertising for this show. I set it to record at the last minute when I saw it listed as a new fall premiere on the TV Guide website. I watch a lot of TV, on all the network channels, but I never even saw a commercial for this. By contrast when shows like Vampire Diaries and 90210 premiered I heard all about it, through commercials and online, months before it even aired.

The Secret Circle - Bound Episode Preview

Can't wait! :D

Interesting ep as we find out more about the older folks. A bit slow but it was pretty good. Britt looked great. :adore:

The shots of Cassie's book make it look more like an art journal than a spellbook. But still I was half-expecting her to find something in that book (since she's the only other one with access to her family's book) that addressed the binding and if it's a good idea. Didn't really expect the binding to happen so quickly.

Overall a decent show so far, nothing great, but I'm interested to find out who can be trusted.

I dared to watch the second episode and I think I'll stick with it for the time being. The whole idea of people learning about and controlling supernatural forces is a fascinating one and that's embodied quite well in Faye, my favorite character. I like her lust for power and her determination to not let anyone control her or what she does with this witchcraft. Atta Girl! I expected her refusal to bind the circle to play out for a while, but she caved pretty quickly. Her defiant attitude hasn't changed though, so I'm sure something interesting will come of this.

By the way, Phoebe Tonkin looks a lot like a younger Mädchen Amick...
