The Second Season

The thing about seasons is that it will be looked at as a season so if there are a few good episodes it gets graded as a bad season except for.... i.e. Ent s1 and 2 etc. The same goes for S2 of DS9 and for TNG too for that matter whereas IMHO s2 is the better of the TOS seasons.

It is all open to opinion but personally I would have to say.....season wise (so i'm not saying there aren't episodes I like but seasonwise I must agree that the second and even the first DS9 seasons were not anywhere equal to the rest especially 5-7.

I see DS9 Season 2 as the only season where DS9 fulfilled 100% of its premise. Don't get me wrong, I love all of DS9 and my favourite season of DS9 is 7, but Season 2 has no Defiant, no recycled TNG scripts, and no Dominion War. This is pure DS9.

Wow! That's exactly how I feel. I like the War, but it dominated the series and pushed aside much of the unique flavor of DS9 and the variety of the early seasons.

Season 2 is the first box set I bought. It is a great season, despite a few snoozers like Rivals, Second Sight and Melora.

It has many outstanding episodes and many which are very, very solid and fresh.

Great:

Necessary Evil
The Maquis
The Jem Hadar
Whispers
Circle Trilogy
The Wire

Good:

Crossover
Rules of Acquisition (highly underrated!)
Profit & Loss
Invasive Procedures (am I the only one who really likes this one?)
Armageddon Game (the birth of the O'Brien/Bashir friendship!)
Blood Oath
The Collaborator
Tribunal
Cardassians

There is so much texture to this season, so many great recurring characters come into the orbit of the series in this season (or are made more rich and compelling), there is great variety and specialness - the show really develops a wonderfully new nd distinct flavor here with wonderful, complex characters and a rich, vibrant setting.

One of my favourite season. The Circle-trilogy and lots of great episodes that gave the characters more depth and some twists and turns for the upcoming seasons.

Season 2 was when DS9 left behind the TNG style stories and pressed on with it's own ideas. The opening trilogy, Cardassians and Necessary Evil are the strong episodes of the first half. Armageddon Game and Whispers are when things pick up again after a mid-season slump of average episodes. The final 8 from Blood Oath to The Jem'Hadar are fantastic episodes

I'd rate the seasons 5, 2, 6, 4, 7, 3, 1

Season 2 is one of the three best seasons (along with 4 and 5). I've been standing by that opinion for about a decade now and the soph season still holds up well after all this time.
