The Scores of Iron Man

I just noticed that Ramin Djawadi has not returned as the composer of Iron Man 2's music.

I've read quite a bit that people seem to put down the score for Iron Man, saying it was uneventful and lacked a theme. Personally, I always found this quite strange. I really liked the score of Iron Man, and thought it had a great and very identifiable theme. I hum it all the time and think it fits the film excellently.

For those who have seen Iron Man 2, what's the score like? Did John Debney retain Djawadi's themes at all? I kinda' hope so.

Also, anyone know if there have been any discussed reasons for Djawadi not coming back? I know Favreau's worked with Debney before, but is there a story here?

I remember reading that Favereau wasn't happy with Djawadi work on the first one which I too am not a fan of. It works all right in the context of the film but by it's self it falls really short and is disappointing. There were samples of Debney's score on his website a couple months ago and while there wasn't enough to get a sense of what the score would be like there was one track that I really enjoyed. There was a youtube video that Jackson Archer linked me that had parts of the score (I think Iron Man and War Machine's themes) that was really good. The score is being released on July 7 (don't know why so late).

I personally really enjoyed his themes...

Does anyone have any links at all to some of Debney's score? I can't seem to find anything on the net.

Ask and you shall receive.

I was moderately pleased with Ramin Djawadi's score for Iron Man. I mean, Jon Favreau asked for a rock 'n roll motif, and in that respect Djawadi delivered. It wasn't the most memorable score, and it is ultimately pretty forgettable outside of the film, but I have warmed up to it. It does sound like a Zimmer knock-off in some areas.

Favreau didn't like Djawadi's score and I think he was also responding to the negative criticism of Djawadi's material. I am not sure why Favreau didn't hire John Debney in the first place, since they have worked together before on Zathura and Elf, but he was brought on board for Iron Man 2.

Having seen the film, I will say that the score is equally unmemorable when you see the film. I think that's mostly due to the fact that the film had a poor mix -- the sound effects drown out so many of the other elements such as the score that in a lot of cases such as the action sequences, you really can't get a handle for Debney's music. However, Debney's theme or Iron Man is pretty solid, except it doesn't really solidify itself too much in the film, or at least from what I remember hearing anyway.

I think both Djawadi and Debney's scores are both pretty unmemorable when heard in the film, but are decent listens when heard outside of the film, even though I've only heard a portion of Debney's music as separated from the film.

Wow...I think that's pretty bland. I think the selection of Djawaldi's score I linked to above is far better. I think it's great, loved it in the film and outside of the film. I don't understand the negative criticism it's received. It seems I stand alone on that point. If you check the link I provided, the main theme plays at about 1:41...I LOVE that theme. I think it's potent, memorable, hummable and suits the character wonderfully.

I'm really disappointed it won't be heard in Iron Man II. :(

^Judging by the link you've posted, I must say it's pretty weak, IMO. It alternately builds and wanes, but mainly it just drones. I hear an extremely simple rhythm but no music.

The score for Iron Man 2 will be coming out on June 7 the same day as Predators according to John Debney's twitter and facebook. The score wasn't mixed with the soundtrack and the sound of the film very well in my opinion which I think is what Jackson means by not hearing it in the film. There wasn't much of the score in the fllm because of how it's mixed. My favorite piece of score has to be during Black Widow's sequence. I'll be getting the score anyway.
